Ruby finds an unusual spider and web to take a closeup of. 300 words

Artistic Expression From An Unusual Source

Ruby loved to study spider webs.

“The spiders themself I don’t enjoy as much, they like to bite me. But their webs are beautiful.”

She got a camera for Christmas last year, which made her so happy.

“Spider webs often don’t stay in one piece very long, so when I come across one, I can take a picture. Luckily my new camera has a macro setting, which means a lot of close-up detail,” she told her science teacher with enthusiasm.

“I’d be interested in seeing some of them,” he told her smiling.

It didn’t take any more prompting; Ruby went out to take new shots that she could share with her science class. She came upon a very unusual web. In the center, was what looked like an easel with a canvas on it. Intrigued, she took out the powerful lighted magnifier she always carried with her on the expeditions. She studied the center of the web.

“It is a tiny easel with an even tinier canvas on it! Amazing! The painting is of a human eye.”

As she continued to examine the painting, she saw the spider. It was wearing a jaunty tam with a miniscule featherstuck in it. The strands of the web itself were spattered with paint, so creature had obviously been busy.

“Show me your good side,” she whispered.

As if it understood, it turned to the right and struck a pose. She snapped several then burst out laughing.

Back at school, there was a photo competition going on. Rudy made an enlargement of the artistic spider and entered it.

“I won, I won, I won! “Ruby said joyfully to her science teacher. Her whole class was overjoyed, and her teacher gave her an A++ on her web project.
