Getting A Horse Unexpectedly

Becky decided to play with her horse.

“I wish you were a real animal, Starla,” she told her beloved toy as she hugged it.

In spite of her wish to have a real pony, Becky loved Starla. She stood the old stuffie against the wall and began drawing her how she wished her to be.

“A palomino, with long flowing mane and tail. A red and yellow saddle and reins. Shiny golden hooves of course,” she said to herself as she drew and then colored her idea of what Starla should look like.

She sighed when she finished and hung it on the wall over the real Starla. She yawned and curled up on her bedside rug. Suddenly, a loud neighing, made her jump up and go to the window.

Outside, in the clouds, was Starla as Becky had drawn her.

“Are you real?” the little girl opened the window to ask.

Opening the window, Becky jumped onto the horse’s back. As she landed, the horse took off like a rocket. Holding on for dear life, Becky was laughing and hollering into the wind.

Soon, Starla and Becky spotted a carousel below them. It was missing a horse. Gently, they floated down to take their place in the empty space.

It was so much fun! Finally, the calliope and the carousel both slowed down and stopped. As it did so, Becky slapped the reins on Starla’s neck and the horse took off into the air again.

The horse took a wide turn for home. As they did so, Becky lost her seat and grip on the reins and began falling. Waking up suddenly, with a sharp cry, the girl was relieved to be lying safely on the softness of her stuffie on her own bedroom floor.
