The Assistants are "taking over the world" and the MC isn't having it. |
“These modern Assistants are brilliant! They help with your everyday needs such as grocery shopping, house chores, cooking, and babysitting. You’d never have to lift a finger again.” I glare at the TV. Mayor Bob Brady is being interviewed by a news reporter about these AI Assistants, in my own words, literally taking over the world. There’s no way we’re living in a world where we must rely on technology to do all of our work. I’ve enjoyed cooking and cleaning. Good thing I don’t have to buy these pieces of junk. “Just so you know," Bob says, smiling at the camera. "It’s required for everyone to have an Assistant. We humans are too flawed to work ourselves, so we’ll leave it to the Assistants.” I shake my head. No. I have to stop this. But what can I do? And why on earthdo we all have to own an Assistant? This makes no sense! Before I can do anything, someone knocks on my door. I answered and there it is. My own Assistant. Jin. It's about four feet in height. Its color is silver with LED accents. It has a cylinder-shaped body with retractable arms. I had to say the robot looks cool. But, I still don't need an Assistant. “Hello, human! What can I do for you?” “Nothing.” “How about a shoulder massage?" It reached its metal hands toward me. I backed up a step. “No! Don’t tou- Oh, that’s it. Right there.” While Jin works, I relax. ~ After a few weeks have passed, Jin has been nothing but of help. When I woke up one morning, it already fixed breakfast, cleaned the kitchen and took my kids to school. Then, it washed, dried and folded our laundry. Maybe having an Assistant won't be so bad after all. Originally published on Medium: https://medium.com/me/stats/post/2b494ef35143 |
