A little girl finds a little creature in the bushes, but her dad won't let her keep it. |
“Get this piece of garbage outta here!” Dad yelled. “But, Dad. I-” “‘But, Dad’ nothin’! Now, get it outta here!” He pointed outside. I wiped away my tears as I took the little creature back to the bushes. I looked down at him. He was small, orange with blue eyes and it can breathe out smoke. He had small wings and spikes on its head. I found him in the bushes where butterflies flew around him. I think they liked him. I don’t get it. How is this little guy trash? I faced the creature in my hands. He looked like a harmless dragon. I decided to sneak him into my room. Dad didn’t have to find out. That night, I dug into my drawers and put the creature in a shoe box. He should be safe there. “I’m gonna call you…Bunny!" Bunny blinked at me. "You're so cute! Good night, Bunny!” I pet him and he nuzzled against my hand, which made me giggle. I turned off the lights and went to bed. The next day, I opened the box and…Bunny was gone! Where could he- “DOVE! Get your tail down here now!” Uh-oh. Cautiously, I went downstairs and found out that Bunny was...cleaning the house? He was using a feather duster to clean the couch. The house looked the neatest it's ever been. I found my dad with his arms crossed, but he didn't look mad. "Now, you didn't tell me this thing can cook and clean." "I didn't know that either." "Well, this mornin', I woke up and found that he cooked us some pancakes! And now I ain't gotta worry about cleaning the toilet. You know what? You can keep him." "I can?!" "Yeah. As long as he keeps it up." He smiled over at Bunny. Originally published on Medium: https://medium.com/fiction-shorts/bunnys-shenanigans-39fde165b0b1 |
