Double spine poem-first words read vertically & last words read vertically

along the beach

he listened clasping her left hand as she

combed walking talking about how they met

through an ad before recalling how an

all-night chat session had led her to empty

dives silent dreams with only a bottle

for company they crossed oyster shell rimed

cheap streets while conversing planning dates with

dinners they doffed shoes rolled up cuffs the salt

tainted air slicked the lines of their palms his

by hers as they softly licked chapping lips

loneliness lurked in the courtyards of half

erected towers their naked feet kissed

tumbling shadows straddling above the

castles melting back into the wet sand
