There's no crying in baseball, or so the movie quote goes. But there's plenty of cursing, spitting, and tobacco chewing. And that's just in the stands.
When my eleven-year-old daughter tried out for the local Little League team, she cursed at the coach and spat on his shoes. (I'm happy to say she doesn't chew tobacco.)
Today is the first game of the season, and my daughter will be standing smartly in right field. And my wife and I will be cheering her on, no matter how good or bad a job she does. Because that's what proud parents do.
