A bewitching familiar Halloween tale.

Contest Prompt

The owl at the window
Wasn’t a raven or crow
Like in the tale by Poe.

If you must know,
He was no poetic soul
On the go.

The owl set
For a moment of rest
For only a moment at best.

It was a scary Halloween night
When he’d taken flight
As a witch’s Familiar delight

To test the air
For his madam fair
Who a trick not a treat meant to share.

When a small costumed child
From a window had smiled
And the owl stopped to talk for a while.

Completely lost
Was his mission he’d tossed
And the witch double-crossed.

She’d flown in a rage
Not acting her age, and
Landed in her spell book’s last page.

Now free to be he
The owl now man laughed with glee
And his Familiar past became history.
