Packing away the remnants

Like the fool I am I hoped.
I hoped this time would be different.
Perhaps this was finally my turn.

I collected your best photos.
They warmed my spirit and my smile.
I moved them to the locked folder.

The new lacy things I bought
Were good for a short time.
I no longer need them.

The ones you never saw,
Cherries and roses and all,
I wish I'd never bought them.

The baby pink one--for our first time
I'll never need that now.
They're all packed safely away.

I was so vulnerable with you.
I believed we had a future.
Once you walked into your truth.

The memories of us, however, remain.
I cannot lock those away.
One day, maybe, they won't hurt.
