A poem about respect and what I believe should be its limits

The Bible says
To honor your father and mother
Personally, I agree
But I wonder: What are the limits?

Some parents may beat you
If you have the wrong opinion
Do you respect them by taking it?
Or do you stand up to them?

Other’s abuse may be more of the mind.
Saying you are worthless.
Or will not amount to anything.
The question is the same.

There are those parents who don’t see abuse.
But instead see it as motivating you.
To become your best self.
Do you tell them, “It’s not me.”
Or try to honor them with silence.

Personally, I believe
That if the parent treats you without honor
Theirs is undeserved
