Elliot dreams of sledding disaster 300-word flash |
| Winter Nightmare Elliot shivered in his sleep. He was in his bed dreaming. But the dream was scary. He was standing at the top of a long hill with his favorite sled . He had on double mittens to keep his hands warm and dry. All he had to do was get to the bottom where there was a cocoa stand. He took a deep breath, climbed onto his faithful steed and pushed off by moving his butt forward a couple of times. “Here I go!” he announced to the world as he started down. When he was about halfway down, he felt something give. The sled started going wonky. “The steering’s gone! I’m gonna crash!” he yelled. But no one else on the hill seemed to hear. Out of control, Elliot crashed into the higher and harder snowbank at the side of the hill. By the time he got himself and his broken sled out, he was freezing and his double mittens were caked in tiny snowballs. “I need cocoa!” he told himself. Slowly, he made his way to the stand. He took off a mitten to pay, but immediately put it back on because of the wind. When the steaming cup was offered, he could barely hold it because of the snow on his mittens. He stood right where he was and drank all his hot drink. When he tried to throw the used cup away, his mittens stuck to it and he ended up headfirst in the trash barrel! Luckily, a bigger person rescued him and stood him up again. “Help, help!” Elliot yelled in his sleep. Mom, Dad and his big sister Dahlia, came running. “What’s the matter? Did you have a nightmare? What happened.” All three hugged him tight until he went back to sleep again. |
