Lost in Folklore

Maddox had heard many stories over the years and not one of them convinced him that the local folklore of Haversham County was true. Only stories to pass the time in the boring, rural town near Buxley, Scotland. However, he'd been dared to explore an old house in the middle of a field where tales of ghosts and disappearances were rampant.


The Wales influencer had a modest following, and it was a TikTok member who issued the dare. Accepting the challenge, Maddox chose to live cast his adventure inside the home.


A week later, it was dark when he arrived at the home and drove his car up to the large iron gate. His task was to enter the front door and leave through the back door using only a candle for illumination. It sounded simple enough until the three-story monolith stared back at him causing his smile to fade.


His last message before entering was, "See you on the other side."


With the candle lit, he coughs as dust swirls. Shadows loom everywhere; his head swivels erratically. His camera points at his face as he ventures, knocking into unseen furniture causing the flame to flicker. A malodorous stench invades his nostrils as he feels the floor ascending. Every doorway is dark, but why so many?


Part of the dare was he couldn't call out for help, but right now, he's unsure how to get out, so he turns around to go back the way he came. His knee slams into something solid, and he falls losing his phone and candle.


The flame extinguishes.


He rubs the dusty floor for his phone in the darkness, crawling on hands and knees. Feeling what resembles a doorway, he enters and plummets into oblivion, right into the folklore's lap.
