Just an image It's hard to believe November is upon us. My mind is still on sunshine and warm days and soon we will be wearing coats again! Remember to turn your clocks back at midnight Sunday so you won't be late for church!

The prompt for today: I went to the store today and bought a gallon of ice cream. I live by myself so a gallon of ice cream is a lot. Ice cream however is my weakness. As I carried it in, one of the brothers was teasing me. He said, "Your weakness is showing preacher."

As he laughed he said, "Of course, the only reason I say that is because I want your ice cream."

It made me realize however that just like all Christians, my every action is under scrutiny. How might this realization change the way we act and talk?

I honestly do believe that people are more apt to look at our actions than listen to our words. No, my intention in bringing in a gallon of ice cream was not to eat the whole gallon at once, but rather to save some money. When you buy stuff like ice cream you save a lot of money by buying a gallon as compared to a pint. The gallon bucket was $2.50 on sale. The pint boxes were $1.50 and they held 3/4 of a pint. I thought I was getting a good deal buying it in bulk like that. What I didn't realize was that I looked like a glutton carrying it into the building. Of course I explained to the man who was watching what my reasoning was and he agreed that it was better to save money. If I go back today and buy ice cream it would raise eyebrows.

Christians must be aware that we are representatives of Christ. Everything we do is watched and the adversary is always looking for ways to accuse. Let's give him no ammunition!

For my blog This has been an interesting week. It seems like yesterday was the first day and the week is up already. Here in space it is difficult to tell time.

Remember to set your clocks back at midnight on November 1. Yeah, I know. I hate the longer periods of darkness too, but we are starship voyagers. We don't see much starlight anyway! Speaking of stars, we are exploring a star today named (185) .

 Below  (E)
pastoral poem about my happy place (one of them anyway)
#2148738 by Sorji

In this piece, the author speaks of going to their happy place. Tell us about your happy place.

My happy place when I was a child was way on top of this ridge. Nobody could ever find me and I couldn't answer them because I couldn't hear them calling for me. Then as I got older my happy place became my desk. It is still my happy place to this day. I love being busy doing something productive. I especially love learning. I'm an online graduate student so I have the privilege of writing research papers all the time as well as discussion board posts, journals, and blog entries. I love writing and learning new things. At my school, we are on a semester basis, but the classes run in eight-week segments. You have either two classes a week for eight weeks or one class per week for eight weeks. It depends on whether you are a full-time graduate or undergraduate student. I am a graduate student so full time is one-two classes for the first eight weeks, and one class for the second eight weeks. I am currently in my second eight weeks taking Early Church History 505 02 of HCHT 505- section 02. I love history! It was my minor in undergraduate school. I have already completed 3 of the courses I need to graduate. I have one more semester of regular course work and then I go to work on my capstone program. I have one of three choices for it. I can write a thesis, I can do a one-year residency, or I can do the spiritual formation track, which I believe is course work. I think I will go to the thesis route. I am not sure what my thesis will be about yet. It will definitely have to do with chaplaincy though as I am a chaplain. Perhaps Biblical theology. I was fascinated with the theology of St. Augustine and the Apostolic Fathers. So perhaps I'll do something like that. Whatever it is, I will spend time at my happy place doing it.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: It's the last day of October and daylight savings time will soon end. Write a good-bye to daylight savings time telling why you will miss it or why you won't miss it."

I don't know that I want to write a letter to Daylight Savings Time, but I will definitely miss it. You see, I have Seasonal Affective Disorder. If I do not get a certain amount of sunshine I become depressed. When I get depressed my energy level goes down as does my interest in things. I am an honor student and depend on my scholarships. I cannot afford to become depressed and deal with the negativity and loss of interest. Last year I was okay. My faith kept me hopeful and I am certain faith will keep me going this year as well. I also have a good doctor who properly diagnosed the Seasonal Depression and the accompanying bipolar disorder and head injury. I am on medications for those. As long as I stay medicated along with being prayed up and studied up, I will be just fine. Daylight Savings time will return shortly. It seems it just started yesterday. The whole year has gone by so fast it seems it just started. Goodbye Daylight Savings Time. Hello Daylight Standard Time.

Blog City image small Prompt: "Happy Samhain or Happy Halloween

It's the last day of October which brings about daylight savings time change and also a reality check. There's only 62 days left of 2020 counting today. Where did the time go? Are you looking forward to the new year or are you feeling melancholy it's ending? I've been thinking of all the things I wanted to accomplish. .What about you how has the year gone?"

Since I am not pagan I do not celebrate Samhain. I am also not Catholic so I usually don't bother with Halloween either. I have been known to join a Halloween party here at the Veterans Home, especially if I am broke and think I might win a little cash playing some of the games. Of course, food is also an incentive. They usually always have some goodies there. In fact, there is a Halloween party today that I may attend because of the food and prizes. As to Halloween itself, I believe it and most Christianized holidays have pagan roots. If I participate, it is not to celebrate the holiday as much as to love on the people who do by serving them.

Just an image Prompt: "I had a good Bible study last night that ran later than usual so I did not get the prompt out. Here it is.

How can fidelity in a relationship be a reflection of the kind of relationship God wants to have with us?"

The answer to this question elicited a lot of Biblical answers from my class last night and I expect that I will see similar answers from most of the bloggers today. The answer is really a theological answer that takes some explaining.

When God created everything He did so to spread His love and the joy that this love brought Him to others. First He created the angels so He could share His love with the angels. Angels are free-will creatures just as we are, but angels are immortal. Corruption was found among the angels and one-third were expelled from Heaven. God, being God, wanted even more creatures to love who could love Him in return. He created man to love Him. Man rebelled and sin entered man. The man then became what Augustine and Luther called "homo incurvatus in se" or focused inward. This inward focus or inward curved thinking put man's attention only on self. God however wanted our focus to be on others. We were not to worry about our own needs. Others were to care for our needs as we cared for the needs of others. Fidelity in a relationship puts the needs of the other first. It wants only the very best for its object. It loves its object more than it loves self. This restores the focus God intended.

For my blog I had a meeting at a starbase last night that ran over so I did not get the prompt out on time. No apologies or excuses, just an explanation.

On the way back from the starbase and cruising through WDC galaxy in cyberspace, I encountered a star that I wanted to explore. The star had several planets surrounding it and sensors detected music on one of those planets. I investigated and found a lyrical poem.

Medusa the Snake Headed Monster  (E)
A poem about Medusa I wrote in Latin class (2000) for Christmas/Halloween.
#104400 by KD Miller

Do you believe in monsters? (Please don't get political here.)

I can just see this prompt becoming a monster in and of itself as a Republican blogger says that Biden and Harris are monsters or a Democrat blogger rips Trump and Pence apart before Tuesday's election. I hope we don't do that.

I believe there are some terrible things in this world such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters that can be monsters. As to mythical creatures like Medusa, Kraken, or the monster under the bed, I do not believe exist. I do know that God is in control of everything though and He controls the demons that would become real monsters if left unchecked.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Write about your time in high school and how it changed you."

My time in high school was a nightmare for me. I lived in a house with no running water. In short, I had serious hygiene issues and the teens were merciless. Teachers were just as bad. I actually had a fistfight with one teacher and a principal. I hated high school and could not get out soon enough. My high school even cheated me. They illegally took away 17 of my earned credits for missing school. I lived at the junction of two creeks and when it flooded I could not cross them to get to school. The days should have been automatically excused. They were not and I was held back a year. I dropped out and got my GED. The Board of Education called me a few decades later and asked how they could "fix" their mistake. I told them they could do so by giving me back the credits they illegally took from me, which combined with what I already had would make me a graduate. They said they could not do so since I already had my GED. I hung up on them.

Since then I have earned two associate degrees and two bachelor's degrees. I am now an honor student at Regent University in the M. Div program.

Just an image I want to thank you all and particularly (114) for covering for me these past few days. Between work and school, I have been swamped. We've had emergencies here on the floor that kept me busy, then I had four papers to write and research and about 500 pages of reading for work along with my regular worship/chapel schedule. I got it done except for one short assignment. Thank you.

I want to change things up a little today and ask why is it important that we stay dedicated to God? It is so easy to walk away. Why is important we stay on track?

There are a variety of reasons to stay on track. One reason to stay on track is that the more we stay on track the more God will bless us with His presence. God says "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have enough room for it", Malachi 3:10.

Of course this passage refers to material offerings but I suggest that it also applies to spiritual offerings.

Another reason to stay dedicated is that our hearts will begin to harden if we do not. God does not take hostages. If we walk away He will call for us to come back. He will not force us to come back. He will keep calling. As we ignore Him it becomes easier and easier to ignore and finally He turns us over to a reprobate mind. Romans 1:28. A reprobate mind basically means a mind that no longer hears the voice of God.

Where Does a Poem Live?  (E)
Seriously, where?
#2230928 by fyn

Where does a poem live?"

I think a poem lives in the heart and mind of a writer and audience.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Use these words in your blog entry today: unmentionable, unaccustomed, collector, tree, book, ghosts

I can remember when underwear were called "unmentionable." Now it not unusual to see young men with half their rear end hanging out and women with half their breasts hanging out. We used to be unaccustomed to such behaviors and styles. There will be a time when man faces a collector for his immorality though. Sin is sin and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. God's book is getting full and soon He will return. Then we'll see who believes and who loses their ghosts.

Just an image This is the second attempt to get this out. I just finished one, was ready to save and send and moved a finger and lost it! So here we go again!

We have just finished Chapter one of Proverbs on heeding wisdom. Chapter 2 is titled 'Avoid the Adultress'.

Prompt Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Proverbs 2:1-5

1. My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4. If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

I had only intended to use 2 verses but could not figure out how to divide them, they all go together.

What are these verses saying to you?

Solomon is telling the nation of Israel, whom he addresses as "my son" that if they will seek after the righteousness of God, which he personifies as a person called Wisdom. they will find that righteousness and be pleasing to God. Living a godly life is a matter of the will. If you decide you are going to be godly you will be.

 A Childhood Memory  (E)
A snapshot from my early childhood
#2234626 by Sidney D.

What do you remember from early childhood?

My earliest childhood memory was living in a house way out in the country and up in the holler so to speak. It was dark and we were on the porch. My dad had bought me my first toys and I was playing with them. There was a full moon so I could see to play. I remember the contentment most of all. It was a very happy moment. I must have been about 4.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: I've been watching the virtual tours of Salem, Massachusetts and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. So many things I didn't know about. It was fun seeing and listening. Tell us about your home town. What's it famous for? Does it have great architecture? Restaurants? Museums? Famous Murders? Gardens? Celebrities?"

I now call Barboursville WV and Huntington WV my hometowns. My actual hometown though is St. Mary's WV. It isn't famous for much of anything. It was home to some of the fastest high school track stars in the country. My cousins were all very fast runners. They would go out and run miles in combat boots and work boots with light sand bags tied to their ankles for practice. Then during meets they wore track shoes and flew like the wind. One cousin came within seconds of meeting the world record four minute mile. I set a record in broad jumping as well. Our town though was not famous. It is becoming known due the big fishing tournament the hold each year called the St. Mary's Bass Festival.

I just finished up my final paper for class, so I have a little breathing room now. I have written two one thousand word academic journal entries, two 1,000 word academic blog entries, two papers at 2,000 words each, watched 3 hours of lectures, read 400 pages of the textbook, and worked 2 days this week. I've gotten up at 4:30 AM and stayed up until 9:00 PM to do so, but it was worth it. I learned and am learning a ton.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- We are finishing Chapter 1 with these 3 verses.

Proverbs 1:31-33

31. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

This concludes chapter 1. What do you think these verses mean?

I think these verses mean just what they say: if we listen to wisdom and obey the commands of God, we will dwell safely. If we follow our own ways, God will permit us to do so but the results will be disastrous. We should always obey God's word.

When Solomon uses the term "Wisdom" he means "godly advice." Solomon personifies wisdom in anthropomorphic terms. He says that Wisdom is a person in much the same way that a writer may give human characteristics to an animal or inanimate object. Wisdom, however, is godly advice.

Write about what it is like to be yourself.

If there is one person I enjoy being it is myself. There was a time I hated my life and just about everything in it. I was living by myself at the time and would often go for a week without seeing another human being. I went sort of stir-crazy and died inside from loneliness. Now I live with about 90 other people and attend class most of the day. I have strong relationships with the guys and actually enjoy my own company as well. I love being me.

Hi folks! I apologize for having been gone most of the week. I knew that I was going to get extremely busy and it looks like I am probably not going to be able to help out with the Red Kettles at the Salvation Army this year as I normally do, because I simply will not have time. I am in my Church History 505 class right now and it is writing intensive. In fact, today I have to finish a paper in which I am doing a synthesis or analysis if you will of St. Bernard's "On the Love of God". I also have to try to write a 1,000-word discussion board post and a 1,000-word journal entry post for the same class.

On top of all of that, I am working as chaplain here at the West Virginia Veterans Home and I am also the floor leader here at the Veterans Home. Floor leaders are responsible for odd and end jobs that need to be done as well as going door to door to see that everybody is out during fire drills, and meeting resident needs on the weekends and during off-hours. I am up every morning at 4:45 AM preparing for the 5:00 AM headcount. I walk with the nurse to be their witness and keep the role. So I am usually in bed by 9:00 PM. In other words, I stay as active as a beaver trying to dam up Niagara Falls.

Fall is always busier still because of my duties to the Salvation Army. I participate in signing community members up for Christmas programs and help with the Red Kettle drive. I get to help count the money that we collect, straighten wadded-up bills, and sort and stack them. It's always a busy time but God blesses me and uses me to accomplish His will.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- Here is the prompt for Saturday, October 24, 2020

Proverbs 1:24-26

24. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded:

25. But ye have sat at naught all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26. I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

We are still under the heading of "Heed Wisdom's Advice".

What are the verses saying to you?

These verses are a parental type warning. I have often given my son and the children I helped raise such warning. "Okay. You won't listen to me so I'm just going to let you go and then when you get hurt I'll say I warned you!"

I think every parent has had such a conversation with a child. In this case the parent is God speaking through Solomon and the child is the stubborn, rebellious humanity. (Yes. It was actually Israel but it speaks to all of us.) If we do not heed God's advice it will not end well for us. It never does. I don't know how many times I've heard the voice of God saying something was not a good idea and did it anyway only to find myself in trouble. Solomon is issuing a stern warning to heed advice.

 The Writer's Life  (E)
A free-verse poem about the life of an everyday person.
#1751257 by lexos02

Write about your life as a writer.

I am tempted to say that I currently have no life as a writer, but that would not be true. I am an online graduate student. All of my assignments are written in Turabian format and never less than four pages in length. So I have plenty of writing to do. It just follows a different prompt and becomes an academic voice. I just got through writing a theology paper about Augustine of Hippo and am currently writing an analysis of Bernard of Clairvaux's "On the Love of God." My assignment currently focuses on Bernard's Four Degrees of love. I just finished giving myself the first degree and the second degree is in progress. By the end of the day, I will have caught the third and fourth degrees as well. So by day's end, I will have spent the last two days catching the first degree, second degree, third degree, and fourth-degree from both Bernard and my professor! (lol)

I don't know. We'll wait until after the elections and find out. If Biden wins then I think the rioting will settle down and the liberal left will lie contented and cozy for awhile and conservatives will have heart failure. If Trump wins the liberals heads will explode and the riots will continue. Either way, I think the strong will be the only ones standing while the rest eat up all the xanax in the world.

You'll see my computer monitor. I am much too busy to host a ghost tour and watch people act like idiots. I went on a ghost tour once. I hate to admit it and God has removed whatever demon guided it, but I had psychic powers when I went on the "ghost" tour. If there had been a spiritual presence I would have known it! Not a single goosebump from the tour. In fact, it was rather boring for me aside from having to be heavy and crackdown on some kids who were interrupting the host. They were the nearest thing to exciting the whole evening.

Actually, I have learned all sorts of valuable lessons both academically and in wisdom. Academically I have earned two associate degrees and two bachelor's degrees. I am working on a master of divinity degree. One of my associate degrees is in divinity as is one of my bachelor's degrees. The other associate degree is is in Dependency Disorder and the other Bachelor is a Regent Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis on psychology.

The school of hard knocks has been my best college. It has made me into the person I am today and taught me that I need Jesus Christ above all else.

If I could figure that out I'd be very rich. Sometimes people don't make sense. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, on this earth worth maiming yourself intentionally. I just don't get it. I guess people like Oedipus think others will feel sorry for them. In the case of Oedipus, it was an attempt at causing guilt. All it did was blind him.

Last week we studied commandment 5 Honor your father and mother.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- Now I want to ask "What was the significance of the promise "You will live long in the land" associated with Commandment Five? How is it relevant today?

When we look at this passage we have to practice the science and art of hermeneutics. We have to read the context of the passage. What is going on? Who is the speaker talking to? Etc. The proper hermeneutic for this passage is that the writer was speaking to the whole nation of Israel. Therefore when he says that they are to honor their mother and father, he is talking about taking care to listen to the wisdom of the older generations. The older generations have already made all the stupid mistakes we are about to make. They know the outcome and can direct us onto the right path.

"Honor father and mother, that you might live long in the land" was a warning to Israel. Moses was telling Israel that God had certain expectations and that not carrying out those expectations would have consequences. The context supports this believe. Just a little later in this same book and perhaps even in the same sermon, Moses gives Israel a list of curses that will befall them if they fail to keep the commands. These curses include death and exile, both of which would remove them from the land.

which brought me to ask "What is your favorite season and why is it your favorite?

My favorite season has typically been summer because everything is alive and vibrant. I am beginning to turn to liking spring the best because it is cooler and summer follows it. However, if I were to pick a month that I would like to be stuck in forever it would likely be October or May. Either one would be fine with me. By May the trees are green and I love green. Nest to royal blue, green is my favorite color. I prefer a tree with a full set of leaves.

In despair, the dog chewed up my homework as the computer printed it out. Somehow though, my professor isn't buying that. I guess I better not try it huh?

What are your thoughts on small but kind acts like this? Do they have the potential of bringing about World Peace?"

I think acts of kindness like this can have an impact, especially when the world around you makes absolutely no sense. The children were innocent bystanders in an adult world of madness through wars. Children deserve candy and the chance to live peaceful lives.

Proverbs 1:13-14

13. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14. Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse.

What does this mean to you?

Taken in context, this scripture means that there can indeed be great material reward in sin but it comes with a deep cost of being displeasing to God. There is nothing on earth worth going to hell for.

#2035884 by Don Two

Write about the universe and the stars.

it's odd that you would bring this up because in my next class at Regent University, which starts Monday, I am going to be studying about the different theologies behind the origins of life and the stars. I always thought science had it all wrong and that there was no way man evolved. Now I am learning from theologians how it is possible that man did evolve and that God guided the evolutionary process. Science can marry religion if science would quit allowing the die-hard atheists to control it. Even some atheists say there are parts of the evolution process that only miracles can work out. Anyway, the stars truly are billions of years old from what I am learning by reading ahead.

Long answer short: the weather. It is not too hot and not too cold in my part of the world. October is perfect. Another benefit for October is that Starbucks has Pumpkin Spice Frappuccinos. That's a definite plus, though my favorite is mocha frappuccino or java chip.

Sheila made the best purple pumpkin pie I ever ate. We never determined how much food coloring she mistakenly used. When the clock said "Dinner Time" we ate it and nobody complained except the scarecrow who did without..

A poem about September 11, 2001.
#2170507 by Schnujo is Late to Lannister

Write about that day in 2001. 9-11. What were your thoughts?

The first thought I had was "That was no accident."

I turned the television on just in time to see the second plane crash into the tower. I could see that it was clearly flown into the tower. My second thought was

"All of those poor people aboard." I felt horrible for having witnessed their deaths along with the thousands of others.

I had to argue with my ex for a bit because she wanted to watch a video. I nixed that idea by telling her that whether she understood it or not, we were officially being bombed. They were using airplanes as flying bombs and that I would like to watch the news so I could see just what the extent of the attack was and who did it. Needless to say, I won that fight.

Proverbs 1:12

Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit.

These verses 8 - 19 are written together in the section Avoid Bad Company. It is just too much to put it all in one prompt. It might be helpful to read it all in order to get the full meaning.

This proverb is telling us that if we stay away from evil people we will not become corrupted by them. The people of Israel were just like people today. They were easily led. They often intermarried with other faiths and this led them to begin practicing those faiths. Most of the Old Testament prophecies and history are about Israel doing just that. They cheated on God by being misled into worshiping idols. Of course, God was ultimately forgiving and restored them but there were consequences, devastating ones.

Pick a dessert quote and share a story that connects with the one you chose.

"Without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos."

I don't know that there would be darkness and chaos without it, but I do love ice cream! I can eat it outside in the wintertime during a blizzard and not think twice. I am a glutton when it comes to ice cream though. I don't eat a pint at a time. I eat half gallons at a time. Therefore, I do not buy it often.

Image #1971183 over display limit. -?- Prompt: "Discuss this quote: “I think of myself as a bad writer with big ideas, but I'd rather be that than a big writer with bad ideas.”
― Michael Moorcock"

I agree. The big writer with bad ideas sells books. The rest of us are unheard of so nobody buys our books.
