PROMPT March 30th

Congratulations on making it to the last day of the competition! What was your favorite prompt from the last month? What was the most rewarding aspect of participating in the competition?

The most rewarding part of the 30 day blogging challenge was meeting all the others who made the effort to turn up every day even if the prompt wasn’t to their liking. It didn’t seem to matter what the prompts were they started a discussion, often leading away from the original idea.
I love the way everyone is different. Different ages, different life styles but still we all have somethings in common. The main one of course is the love of writing, blogging fills that need everyday even if that’s all we write. I suppose this time we all felt as if we were in the same situation, which is unusual, but we all have indeed had to curtail our activities and accept a new reality, at least for a while.
As to what was my favourite prompt it’s hard to say. All of them made me look at myself and ask what I thought about life, how I see things, my point of view. I especially liked the one about the jaw dropping moment. It made me relive a special time which I loved doing.

PROMPT March 29th

Do you write like you talk? Blogging is inherently personal and therefore leaves a lot of room for your unique voice. How do you show your reader your personality through your writing?

I think my personality shines through whenever I write in my blog. It’s where we can be ourselves, speak the truth and reach out to touch others when we reply.
I’ve never once felt when reading any of this groups blogs that I wasn’t hearing their true voices or opinions.
When I write a story, that’s when I like to inhabit my characters, allowing me to use words and a voice nothing like my own.

PROMPT March 28th

Write about something positive. What is something good that’s happened in your world recently? Share a smile, share a laugh, share a success.

The world is a bit short of positivity at the moment so we’ll need to look for golden moments.
A nice thing happened to me this morning. A neighbour was very kind. My husband and I are quarantined until he has his heart operation on Tuesday. Because we need to be vigilant my nurse daughter insists I wasn’t even to go to the shops to get things we were running out of, she’s afraid I’ll pick up the virus and pass it on to her Dad. Saturday morning is when I walk to the newsagents to pick up the newspaper with my neighbour. I phoned her and asked if she’d do some shopping for me. First she brought the paper, picked up my list and then delivered the goods to the door. All with a lovely smile.
It’s those little things that will make the world seem not so scary.

PROMPT March 27th

Someone shared the poem “The Trough” by Judy Brown with me today and I want to pass it on to you. I found it incredibly comforting during this time of global crisis. In your entry today, write about how the poem makes you feel, or write a poem of your own.

This poem is beautiful and relates that at certain times we find ourselves in a place where we can’t see the future or where and how to make the next move. At this time we need to stay exactly where we are, look around to see if others feel they might drown too and hold out a hand to ride this trough together. This is what I’ve been doing this morning, reaching out to my family and friends making sure they are all coping and letting them know how much I care about them.

PROMPT March 26th

Fill in the blanks in this sentence and expand on it in your entry:

I think people spend too much time ________ when they could be _________.

Too much time is spent worrying about what Might happen. Most of us project in our minds the outcome of an action, or inaction and invariably we are proved wrong. Things never pan out the way we forecast they will. What we could be doing instead is to try (as hard as it may be) to enjoy or experience now this moment, a time we can control.
I know I spend too much time on my iPad when I could be, gardening, exercising, cleaning, walking the dog, heck take your pick!

PROMPT March 25th

I need your help to fill the Challenge War Chest! In your entry today, write at least three prompts you’d like to see used in future rounds of the 30DBC. Then, choose one of your own (or one from someone else if you aren’t the first to post) to write your entry on.
My ideas:

1. What scares you the most and why?

2. If you were told you’ll die on Friday and today’s Monday, what would you do?

3. What are you learning about yourself during this Coronavirus outbreak?

I’m choosing to write about number one. What scares me the most.

The most frightening thing would be losing a member of my family. I don’t think I could bear to go to a funeral of anyone of them. My husband and I are the oldest and we speak often of a time when one of us will be left alone. It’s the way things are, will be and should be, for everything has a time. But if anyone younger should go before us, the thought is unbearable.
Pain is also frightening to me, I’ve had times of almost unbearable pain and it’s hard and scary.

PROMPT March 24th

Start your blog with these words: “Five years from now...”

Five years from now I’ll be eighty years old! That is if I survive.
I do hope I’ll be here though, I want to see our great grandchildren grow up. The eldest will be 17 then, she’ll be driving a car, so she can come and pick up her old great-grandmother and take her shopping!
In five years time we will be celebrating being married for sixty years, not sure what that’s called, is it Diamond?
In five years time I simply want to be as healthy as it’s possible to be and to still have all my faculties.

PROMPT March 23rd

What is the best way to spend a rainy afternoon?

We are all going to have to be inventive as to how we spend any afternoon, whether it be raining or not. I’m not a fan of daytime TV, it always makes me feel lethargic so I hope I won’t be doing that. Time spent on WdC is my usual go to, or at least doing some writing.
Cooking and listening to the radio is something I love to do, especially when the rain is beating against the windows.
Jigsaws are on my mind at the moment, I haven’t done a jigsaw for years, except for the grandkid’s ones. I’m definitely going to pick one up next time I venture into the virus infected outdoors.

Write a letter to your younger self. Tell them about something or someone they should be wary of as they move through life and about a specific event they should look forward to.

Dear Sue
You need to find courage to be yourself. Stop trying to be a people pleaser, otherwise you’ll spend most of your life putting yourself last. Have confidence in your ability, you’re smarter than school led you to believe. You are too kind, people have a tendency to take advantage. So my advice to you is to harden up a little and be a little bit selfish.
But don’t worry you will have a lovely life, you will make your own family and they will love you dearly.

I have a very wise friend, she is a really good listener. When an event, maybe a bad situation, has happened, I would say “isn’t that sad or terrible” or something like that. Her reply would always be “Well, we’ll see” or “Maybe.” I asked her why she was so calm about things and she told me this story:

There was an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbours came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.“Maybe,” the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” The neighbours exclaimed. “Maybe,” replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride on of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbours again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. “Maybe,” answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbours congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. “Maybe,” said the farmer….

And so it goes on and on. It will be the same with this virus, it will bring both good and bad to the world.
