Matt, I don't have the answer. I'm a bit in the doldrums myself. Summer seems to have worked horrible wreck on my normal day to day work schedule and my writing time has been cut in half or worse. But I think I'm going to try to write shorter fiction for awhile and this works into my plans for eventual publication of novel length works. But you talked about getting past the concept. What if you explore the concept in short fiction, even flash fiction? Try to address aspects of it in another setting, but quickly, with low investment of time. This might be the kind of thing you can easily wad up and throw awaiy, but it won't be a novel length skeleton to throw on the bone pile. The more attempts you make, even if they end in failure or less then complete success, brings you closer to the perfect solution. Ask me later if I have any success with my doldrums, but getting started on a more managable project might lead on to the larger one. Consider it a scale model. Be sure to include a beginning, middle, and end. Feel free to insert your own favorite inspiration or instructions here. Whatever though, let's get writing. Sincerely LSO |
