Well then you'll just have to take my word. Despite reading the books over several times, especially the first. I was stunned this latest time as I listened to the book on CD. Things that just seemed like interesting and obscure possibilities on the first few reads fit so naturally into the later books that I think it slipped my notice. They were exact prophetic seeings, in effect. So, when I listened recently, I was stunned how much turned up again despite intervening years. George has created another world that might fit you better. He has edited anthologies and written stories in his "Wildcards" world. A plague has swept Earth killing a large percentage, but also leaving some survivors changed. The Aces are the classic superhero (or villian) the plague has only enhanced them AND given them super powers. The Jokers are not so fortunate, though more fortunate than the ones who died of the disease. They have superpowers, sure, but they have been twisted and deformed by the virus that gave them their talents. It likely isn't hard science fiction, if that's what you are in to, but it might give you a little access to an author that your fantasy brethern are always going on about. LSO |
