Make a list of 10 things that are on your desk or writing space and why you might need them.

Ten Items on My Desk

The things on my cluttered desk, which was cleaned off once this year. I have to clean it off again because it attracts clutter once I clean it off. I am not going to list the normal things that are common to desks in this day and age (sorry or not about the cliché). Fortunately, I only have to list ten of the things on my desk, because there isn't enough room to list everything.


1. Mail in/absentee ballet for the November Mid-Term election. As a senior citizen, in Nevada, it's my right to receive a mail in ballot. I put the ballot on my desk so that I can fill it out and mail it in this week.

2. Booklet explaining the six state questions on the ballot, with a short explanation of both the for and against arguments.

3. A round pillbox with two cherub on it reading a book. This belonged to my mother, she used it to take her medication with her when she went to work or out to eat.

4. Poems, waiting to be transcribed into "Devotional Poetry or "Poem Experiments.

5. The Remembrance of God, a prayer book, so I can pause to say a prayer whenever I feel myself getting distracted or someone request prayers.

6. Writing.com coffee mug, with numerous items--such as pencils and this months rent receipt--in it.

7. Leather medicine bag, a gift from a Native American friend, containing two strings of prayer beads (one string belonged to my mother)

8. A red lace-type pouch containing rose petals from Mount Carmel in Israel, it was a gift from a friend who went on pilgrimage.

9. Baha'u'llah: The One Promised in All Scriptures, one of the books I'm in the process of reading. I keep it on my desk for inspiration.

10. A Texas Instruments TI-30SLR+ solar calculator. I keep it on my desk so I can use it for calculations when my cellphone is on the charger.

Ten Things That Make Me Happy

1. Soft Tacos preferably with beef or chicken; however, I will eat them with pork.

2. Cheese burger with everything on it except ketchup.

3. French fries with ranch dressing. Please note, I do not care for ketchup; although, I will consider pasta sauce or salsa.

4. Spanish rice, with either green or red salsa. When I make Spanish rice I usually add ground beef after the rice is cooked. I do this because when my Grandmother made Spanish rice, she fixed it as a main dish and added ground beef. I have not tried ground chicken or turkey; however, I will consider it.

5. Listening to spiritual or gospel music. Some of my favorites are songs I heard as a child when I went to church services at the Southern Baptist Mission in the Smelter Heights in Blackwell, Oklahoma. My other favorites are songs by Baha'i artists. Fortunately, I have access to all these songs on YouTube.

6. Reading. I usually read three different genres of books: (1) Spiritual or scripture, (2) Fantasy, and (3) Science Fiction. On rare occasions, I have been known to read History books and Doctoral Dissertations.

7. Coffee. I usually take my coffee black or with chocolate in it. Sometimes, I add International Delight flavored coffee creamers.

8. Chocolate. I like chocolate in anything. I especially like chocolate cake with ice cream. It does not matter what flavor of ice cream. I will eat any type of chocolate candy; however, I prefer Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

9. Anything that makes me laugh.

10. Sweet iced tea. I prefer my iced tea with real sugar, when I make it at home. When I purchase it in a store, I buy Arizona Sweetened tea, most of the time. I have been known to purchase other brands of sweetened tea.

The Hobbit
by J.R.R. Tolkien

I've read The Hobbit, at least, twice. And the Lord of the Rings Trilogy a couple of times. I can't decide which book I like best. The thing I like about Mr. Tolkien's books is that I can read them, without worrying about anything except escaping into the plot and the characters. The translation is by Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian of the Baha'i Faith and, the grandson of 'Abd'ul-Baha; therefore, it is a perfect a translation as can be achieved.

The Dawn-Breakers: Nabil's Narrative of the Early Years of the Baha'i Revelation
Translated from the Original Persian and Edited by Shoghi Effendi

First, I'm not normally a person who reads history books; however, The Dawn-Breakers because it is written by someone who was a witness to the events. When Nabil writes about things he didn't personally witness, he transcribes the memories of those who witnessed the events.

The Dragon Book

This book is composed of short stories about dragons. I've read through the entire book once. I'm keeping it because I'm in the process of reading some of my favorite stories over again, because I haven't decided on which story I like best.

The Seven Valleys is a mystical composition, and was revealed to answer the questions of Shaykh Muhyi'd-Din of Khaniqin, who was a student of Sufi philosophy. The Seven Valleys was revealed before The Four Valleys. Baha'u'llah addressed The Four Valleys to Shaykh "Abdu'r-Rahman of Karkuk. I feel, each Table covers a different aspect of the mystical way, which eventually leads to God.

The poems in this book were written by several different authors. One of the authors is my brother, M. Frank Darbe.

My taste in music has expanded and my favorites have changed since I turned 60. I still enjoy the music I of my childhood and teenage years; however, today I prefer music that is much more spiritual and relaxing. If I hadn't been limited to five songs, I would have chosen, at least, nine. After meditating on my choices, I whited the list down to five.


My Top Five Favorite Songs:
In no particular order.

*Music1* How Great Thou Art performed by two different artist Hillsong and Chris Rice, as well as numerous others.
*Music2* Hummingbird by Seals and Croft.
*Music1* Blowing in the Wind originally performed by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Has been performed by various other artist.
*Music2* Have You Heard? Performed by Luke Slot.
*Music1* We Are One performed by Dan Seals and The Voices of Bahá.

This is a recent addition to my list of favorites. I like this song because it emphasizes Divine Unity and mentions several of the Manifestations of God, including Christ, Muhammad, the Bab, and Baha'u'llah.

This is one of the songs that was originally recorded by Seals and Croft. I like the version performed by Dan Seals and The Voices of Bahá best because it has an entire orchestra playing the music. Another reason I like this song is that it emphasizes the oneness of humanity.

I like this song when I first heard it performed by Seals and Croft, I can't remember how many years ago. From the first, I could feel the spiritual emphasize of the song. It was only later that I realized the song, in its essence, is about Baha'u'llah.

Blowing in the Wind

I like this song for two reason: (1) it expresses the oneness of humanity, and (2) it encourages me to sang along with the artists. I like this song the first time I heard it, and I detected a spiritual feeling when it was performed.

How Great Thou Art

I first heard this song performed in the Southern Baptist Mission in the Smelter Heights located in Blackwell, Oklahoma. I love hearing and singing the song from the first. I like it because it glorifies the creation of the universe as a creation of God. It doesn't matter to me which artist sings it because everyone I've heard does justice to the song.

Dictionary Day

I use an online dictionary all the time. I do this for two reasons: (1) I'm online when I'm transposing a story or poem into a document, and (2) I can us the zoom feature on my computer to enlarge the print. It's easier to use the zoom feature than it is to use a magnifying glass with a book. I have three dictionaries book marked on my Web favorites: (1) the English Oxford Living Dictionaries  , (2) the Online Etymology Dictionary  , and the Cambridge Dictionary  . Why, because the Oxford and Etymology dictionaries were recommended to me, and the Cambridge dictionary is as good as the other two.

It's Monday, October 15, the third Motivational Monday in October 2018. I've had a cinnamon roll and my first cup of coffee, which should be enough motivation to finish this list. I posted my goals list to "Weekly Goals and have a copy of it in "Weekly Goals for 2024. That particular document has other things that I need to do, as well. The only things in "Weekly Goals for 2024 that I seem to be able to do in a consistent basis is the weekly goals list, and cleaning out my writing.com inbox. The other thing I accomplish, on a semi-consistent basis, is write poems on "Themes For Poems and Blog entries. The items on the list below, will end up in a poem, short story, or essay; unless I get distracted (a problem lately) and ignore them entirely.

Write a list of at least ten things that make you smile and why.

I smile because I'm happy!

It's a beautiful autumn morning here in Las Vegas. The temperature is a cool 60 degrees, with higher temperatures expected when the sun ascends over Sunrise Mountain. Temperatures are expected to get up to about 71 degrees, which means we will have a pleasant Sunday. I'm the only one in my apartment or neighborhood who is up this morning. If anyone else is awake neither they nor their pets making any noise. It is mornings like this that make me smile, because they are calm and tranquil.


Morning prayers make me happy,
they bring a smile to my face,
and focus my mind on the positive.

Logging onto Facebook and, immediately, seeing quotes from the Baha'i scriptures (which have been posted by some of the groups I participate in). Sometimes I simply like the post, while other times I share it or post a comment. My response depends on how I'm feeling, and what's going on in my life at that specific moment. I also like see, reading, and responding to post from my friends across the world.

mug of coffee makes me smile,
wakes me on this beautiful Sunday.

Reviewing makes me smile when I read inspiring stories about people or animals. I also enjoy reviewing comedy piece that make me laugh. When I am depressed one of the things that changes my mood is reviewing stories and poems that make me smile or laugh. Some days the only items I review are in the animal, pet comedy, inspirational, spiritual, or religious genres because I know that I will find one or more items to make me laugh, smile, or think.

Opening the front door,
looking out into the beautiful,
slightly breezy, sunshiny morning
and watching the pigeons scavenging.

Reading articles posed on BahaiTeachings.org  , and in e*lix*ir Journal  , because they include scripture verses and make me think. I especially like reading the poetry in the "e*lix*ir Journal". In addition, I like to read articles on xlink:http://bahaiblog.net/site/}Baha'i Blog{/xlink} and [xlink:https://news.bahai.org/}Baha'i World News Service{/xlink} because I know I can always find something positive, uplifting, or thought provoking.

Cinnamon rolls
or some other pastry
to go with my morning coffee,
because I am less likely to let my coffee get cold.

Making daily gratitude entries in "Writing in Snow. I usually place other things in that journal, such as the poems I post to Poet999 - A Butterfly Emerges From Her Cocoon  , thoughts on articles I read, and scripture verses (usually with my thoughts on the verse or the way it applies to my life).

Memories and Dreams

This week, I read all six article in the series Turning to Your Dreams for Spiritual Guidance   by David Langness. This weekend I plan to read the two articles in the series Pondering the Deep Wisdom of Dreams   by Paul Mantle, and, next week, read the six articles in the series Follow Your Dreams & Meet Your Soul   by David Langness. Any thoughts those articles, or the sacred quotes in those articles, inspire I will place in the entries in "Writing in Snow, along with my gratitude lists.


Dreams, as I believe I've written before, have played an important part of my spiritual journey. In fact, two dreams inspired my spiritual journal. I wrote about those dreams in "Friday Contemplations on dreams, Gratitude List, and poem. The two dreams that began my spiritual journey have stay with through out the years. I didn't know what the meant until I came to Las Vegas and encountered the Baha'i Faith; that's when the dreams became clear to me.

Memories and dreams help an individual move forward in life. Memories are either traumatic or happy, that's why we remember them. We have to learn to deal with the traumatic memories in some way or they stop us from moving forward. I've found the best way to deal with traumatic memories is to pray about them, place them in God's hands, and write about them. I write about the happy memories, laugh, and give thanks for them. I suspect I should be giving thanks for the traumatic memories, as well, because they have helped me learn about myself and strengthened my faith once I placed them in God's hands.

If you could have a/n [inter]national day to name and celebrate however you wished, what would you do?

I already celebrate or commemorate several worldwide Holy Days with the Baha'i Community. I thought about the international days I would name myself, and only three came to mind. Those would be World Citizen Day, Golden Rule Day, and Try A Little Kindness Day; however, two of those are already taken. World Citizen Day   is celebrated on November 4 and International Golden Rule Day   is April 5. This leaves me with Try A Little Kindness Day, which, I think, should be celebrate on August 8 the day Glen Campbell   died.


Glen Campbell faced several challenges in his life. The three main challenges he dealt with were alcoholism, drug addiction, and Alzheimer's disease.13 Therefore, I believe Try A Little Kindness Day should do two things (1) encourage people across the world to be kind to each other, (2) focus international attention on Alzheimer's disease, alcoholism, and drug addiction. The battles Mr. Campbell faced are worldwide problems, which impact families across the planet.

Perform a random act of kindness or donate to an authentic charity that helps individuals with Alzheimer's disease, alcoholism, and drug addiction. Be proactive in showing kindness to your fellow human beings because they are a part of the family of humanity.

October 12 is {xlink:https://nationaldaycalendar.com/national-savings-day-october-12/}National Savings Day[/xlink}. What are some things you have saved up for? What would you save up for if you could?

National Savings Day a day of recognition of "those who value the act of saving and to provide simple steps to show getting started isn’t as difficult as it may seem."15 I'm fairly sure, this day is for people who aren't living from paycheck to paycheck, or choosing between purchasing medication and eating or paying the rent. On the website, I noticed that Capital One, a credit card company, instigated this day. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, considering that the interest rate on credit cards prevent people from saving for anything that doesn't pay off the credit card.


I am a senior citizen living on Social Security. My Social Security money is deposited, like clockwork, every month into my checking account. I have the account set up to use my banks Keep the Change service, which transfers a small amount to my savings account when I use my debit card. Therefore, you would think I would have quite a bit of money in the savings account. This is not the case, because the reason is that the cost of living keeps going up, and I have to use any savings to survive.

Fortunately, my health insurance company will mail my prescription to me, without charge as long I I use generics. Since we don't have a car, I don't have to pay car insurance. This gives a little extra money, and I was able to get my eyeglass prescription filled. However, I still have to worry about other bills, and because of the high cost of food and/or other essentials, I'll have to worry about paying the electrical bill this month. Instead, of worrying I'm placing everything in God's hands because that is the only way I can survive in this economy or upon this plain of existence.

The Evil Whisperer

The dark side, the animal side, of human nature can harm us if we let it. It is the Evil Whisperer whispering in the minds and hearts of humanity, turning us against each other and against God. It whispers negativity, xenophobia, doubt, and all the other negative emotions that could the mirror of the human soul. The Evil Whisperer has had many names down through the centuries from the voice of Satan to the insistent self. It is the voice of our lower nature, and it apposes the voice of our souls--if we let it.


The Evil Whisperer
whispers in the human mind
chanting negativity, fear, and hate.

It takes persistence, prayer, meditation upon the sacred scriptures, and action to overcome the Evil Whisperer or the Insistent Self (which ever you want to call it). Sometimes an individual falls and listens to the voice whispering fear and negativity. God understands our weaknesses, forgives us, and encourages us to do better. This is why Baha'u'llah encourages the individual to bring him or herself to account each day.

Halloween

I don't celebrate or commemorate Halloween any more. I will participate in Halloween parities or events, which I see as social events that don't celebrate this holiday. Sometimes I write a Halloween poem or memory, but I don't make a habit of it. The most I will do on Halloween is say prayers for the departed. I have six prayer in my Baha'i Prayer book for the departed and nine in the smartphone app, so I have several prayers to choose from.


I see Halloween as a secular Holiday, so I don't see any harm in people commemorating it--as long as they do it in a civilized way. I went trick or treating as a child, and it didn't harm me. In fact, it left me with some pleasant memories. I don't give out candy on Halloween, because most of the children in this neighborhood go to Halloween parties or to businesses that give out treats on that night. This is just as well with me, because I don't need a lot of candy leftover for me to eat the rest of the year.

October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child  . What are your favorite girl power songs? Share 11.

The goal of the International Day of the Girl Child is to focus attention on and find "solutions to the unique challenges that girls around the world face every day."17 Two of the main problems facing girls across the planet are gender equality and education. Lack of gender equality impacts every woman and girl, in every strata of society, across the Earth. Lack of gender equality forces women and girls to remain second class citizens with very few if any rights. Without education there can be no gender equality because women remain unempowered and ignorant of their true station and abilities.


"In proclaiming the oneness of mankind He [Baha’u’llah] taught that men and women are equal in the sight of God and that there is no distinction to be made between them. The only difference between them now is due to lack of education and training. If woman is given equal opportunity of education, distinction and estimate of inferiority will disappear."

Human beings are dual natured creatures, that is we have a physical body and a spiritual soul. Women and men have different attributes and different abilities, these difference do no preclude gender equality; in fact, these difference can enhance it, because these differences bring things into any relationship. It does not matter whether the relationship is social, business, or personal. Without gender equality neither men nor women can achieve their full potential as human beings. I suspect this is one thing that both sides of the argument forget or ignore.

The best thing anyone, men and women, can do for girls on the International Day of the Girl Child is to promote education and gender equality. There are two reasons for this. First, women are the first teachers of their children, and if they are uneducated there is a good possibility they will raise ignorant or uneducated children. Second, women and men are the main components of human society and culture, which makes them the wings of civilization. A bird cannot fly if one of its wings is weak and undeveloped, and the something goes for civilization. Human civilization, in this age, cannot prosper without gender equality.

Today is National Leif Erikson Day   What was the best adventure you ever had?

Adventures in Poetry

The important events, both joyful and traumatic, have ended up in my poems. I write the lines and stanzas, sometimes I edit them and sometimes I leave the poem as is. Some of the poems came easily, while other poems were written in scarlet ink on the tablet of my spirit before I transcribed them in black letters on a white page.


         Life is an adventure,
         a journey through mind and soul,
         looking for rhythm and rhyme,
         as you write stanza and line,
         or compose metaphor and simile.

         There is no editing or rewriting,
         when you pen the final line,
         because what you've written
         on tables of chrysolite
         is engraved
         upon your soul.

So far (as far as I can remember), I have written two poems about my spiritual journey, which is an adventure in itself. The first one I placed in the introduction to "Devotional Poetry and the second--"Life's Journey-- is an entry in that that book. My spiritual journey began with two dreams, that I have mentioned in some of my entries in other blogs. I am attempting to write a poem about those dreams, all though I may have already written one. If I have, I will find it as I go through the poems I am transcribing to "Devotional Poetry and "Poem Experiments.

Now there are many wisdoms to ponder in the dream…
Baha’u’llah19

I found two article series on BahaiTeachings.org   about dreams. The first, which I started reading yesterday, is Turning to Your Dreams for Spiritual Guidance   by David Langness was written in 2015. The second, is Pondering the Deep Wisdom of Dreams   by Paul Mantel was written in 2017. I am hoping to get some inspiration from these articles to start and finish a poem or poems about the dreams that began my spiritual journey.

What makes you anxious? When can anxiety become a dilemma? And can anxiety be considered a good thing in some instances?

Anxiety

What makes me anxious? Nothing much anymore. I become less and less anxious about everything as I grow wiser and place every situation in God's hands. There are still certain things that cause me some anxiety, such as filling out forms. I don't like to fill out forms because some of the questions aren't clear or rather as clear as I'd like them to be. In addition, I'm a baby boomer and, I don't necessarily trust the government. This comes from things, I know, the government did when I was a child. One of the things I know that was encouraged and they did, was to sterilize people born with mental disabilities; this happened to a neighbor girl in Blackwell, Oklahoma.


When can anxiety become a dilemma? When it becomes an anxiety attack. I've had several of these in the past. Most of them occurred right after my mother died, so I think they might have had something to do with the grieving process. The only one that wasn't brought on by the grieving process, was instigated when I missed one of my meds. My solution for anxiety attacks is to slow my breather by repeating or reading a prayer aloud. After that I focus on something that calms me, usually a photo with trees and flowers in it.

Can anxiety be considered a good thing in some instances? Anxiety is good when it causes a person to take action. The action can be anything that helps ones fellow human beings. Exercise it good, but it only helps the individual, while writing a letter, calling an elected official about an injustice, or taking food or clothing to a neighbor or someone else in need helps humanity. We need to focus on the needs of this era of civilization rather than ourselves.

Hunger eats at the roots of modern civilization. Hunger gnaws at the spirit of hope that shines from the soul of every human being. Some of the causes of hunger are war, drought, water shortages, destruction of farmland, global warming, etc. Cooperation between nations is the only way to alleviate hunger worldwide. One nation cannot do it on its own. One nation cannot alleviate the hunger within its own borders, because the cause of hunger is global, and global problems cannot be eliminated by a single nation. To eliminate a global problem take unified action from every nation and kingdom on the planet.


Starvation Calls21

Starvation calls!
Calls this generation,
offers death's emancipation
in answer to famine's affliction
in Africa.

Starvation calls
Earth's sovereign nations
to come to the aid of Africa,
and help humanity's womb:
to feed the prey of hunger.
Africa summons humanity.

In somber tones the hungry call:
"STOP starvation!
Help mother Africa."

In the years since I wrote that poem, hunger has gotten worse. We now have people fleeing war, who are on the verge of starvation. We have governments who are more worried about the security of their own borders than they are about the starving millions, some of whom are their own citizens. We have politicians who care more about their own income, or their personal interpretation of their chosen religion than they do about the command to "love thy neighbor".

Have no intention of rewriting that poem. Instead, because it would change the meaning and the emotion of the poem. I will consider writing another poem about hunger, which widens the scope of the problem. Lambert Wilson, a French actor, says “I believe in a Zero Hunger world if we all work together” He is right, we can solve the hunger problem, if we all work together.

Sunday was a joyous, inspiring, and motivating day, because I attended the Unite Convention at the Baha'i Center in Las Vegas. At the Unit Convention, Baha'i elect delegates to go to the National Baha'i Center in Wilmette, Illinois, to elect the National Spiritual Assembly. Once every five years, every National Assembly across the planet goes to the Baha'i International Center on Mount Camel, in Israel, to elect the Universal House of Justice. The thrilling and inspiring thing about Baha'i elections is that there is no campaigning. Each individual in the community gets to know the others during the year, and cast their votes after prayer and meditation.

Beneath the Surface

I've heard it said, that the largest part of an iceberg is under water, which makes sense because there are a lot of large and important stuff under the surface. Take humanity as an example. The DNA of the human genome can't be see with the naked eye, that is it is under the surface of of bodies. However, it is our DNA that proves humanity is a single species. It's our DNA that makes us, at least, 50th cousins with the rest of the human race. It's the stuff under the surface, the stuff we can't see, that is important.

Polishing the Soul

In this quote, Rumi uses the pearl as a symbol of the soul and the oyster represents the physical body. I believe, what he is saying is that when the body dies, the soul continues live. A pearl is created when a grain of sand gets lodged in the oyster and irritates the creature. On the other hand, the human soul is polished through tests and difficulties that we encounter in this physical world. When the soul is polished it begins to reflect divine attributes which cloths or adorns it when the body dies and the soul ascends into the world of the spirit.

October 8 is the second Monday of October, which makes it National Kick Butt Day  . How did you/will you kick butt today? *BigSmile*

I started the day off properly, with the exception of leaving the light on in the bathroom. That doesn't sound like a big deal, but, right now, there are three people in this apartment. A light on in the bathroom meas it is in use. To get back to the subject of kicking butt, as I said, I started the morning off right. I took my thyroid tablet, I chanted the Greatest Name, and I put the coffee on to brew. After the coffee brewed, I poured myself a cup, put an International Delight Reese's Peanut Buttercup creamer in it, and got myself three chocolate covered tiny doughnuts for my first breakfast.


What am I going to do to kick ass today? Remember to turn the bathroom light out when I'm leave that room. I've already posted this weeks goals on "Weekly Goals, so I need to check "Weekly Goals for 2024 to see what I need to do today to accomplish some of them. I will post a rewritten poem on my offsite blog Poet999 - A Butterfly Emerges From Her Cocoon  . I'll, also, post the poem in today[s "Writing in Snow entry, along with my gratitude list for Sunday, October 7, and Monday, October 8. I have to finish a poem I started yesterday for "~ The Poet's Place Cafe~, which I'll post it in "Snow Scribbles. I'll review approximately four items today, perhaps more if I get a chance. I'll probably do a few other things, which I haven't decided on yet.

Weather Note: I just stepped out the front door, look up at The Mountain (Mount Charleston), and saw snow. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, it is officially winter in Las Vegas. Snow on Mount Charleston means cold in Las Vegas. Some people might call it cool, or brisk, those people are not good judges of weather in the desert. Any time there is snow on The Mountain the air gets colder in the valley. This means that anyone with any type of arthritis feels the pain and stiffness.

This week is focused on National Days. *Ha* Starting with today, which is National Frappe Day  ! Do you prefer your drinks hot or cold? What kind of blended drinks do you like? *CupR*

One of my favorite childhood memories is watching Grandpa Frank make coffee. When the electric percolator came on the market, Grandpa purchased one. He made his coffee in that percolator every morning, he would put the coffee in a thermos bottle, place the thermos in his lunch box, and take it to work. On the weekends, or holidays, when he didn't have to go to work, he would make numerous pots of coffee everyday. On those days he would put the coffee on, drink a cup with his breakfast, and go out to do his chores. He would leave the coffee to perk in the percolator, until he came back in and he would have another cup of coffee. Coffee perking in a percolator gets stronger the more it perks. Grandpa called this "Cowboy Coffee",


How do you take your coffee?
Black, unless you have chocolate,
then I take it with chocolate.

Hot coffee is good in spring, summer, autumn, and winder. Iced coffee is good in winter, autumn, summer, and spring. Coffee makes me cheerful. Caffè mocha makes me happy.

I want my coffee hot
sometimes with cream
sometimes with rich dark chocolate
my caffeine muse
will sing.

Since I learned to drink coffee from my Grandfather, I usually like my coffee strong. However, I am a creative person, so I also like to experiment with my coffee. This mean that I will add flavored creams to it. I will also add instant hot chocolate mix for cafe mocha. When I drink iced tea, I want it sweet. When I drink hot tea, I like to add honey and lemon. I normally don't take cream or anything in my hot tea.

Strange Encounters
and Encounters With Strangers

Over the past several decades, I have had numerous strange encounters, encounters with strangers, and strange encounters with strangers. I remember once, several years ago, around Halloween. I was going home, and since I didn't have a car, I was riding the city bus. The bus, going east on Charleston Avenue, made a stop and picked up several passengers. One of them appeared to be a bit inebriated, but not belligerent, so the bus driver let him board the bus. He took the empty seat beside me, and, after the bus begin moving, he started to sing Christmas songs. He was obviously a happy drunk, which isn't a reason to get kicked off the bus. The rest of the passengers, along with me, just smile at man's choice of songs given the time of years.


Another odd encounter at a bus stop occurred when I was taking the Boulder Highway bus to Henderson. I was at the bust stop in front of the Showboat Hotel and Casino (now a vacant lot), when a man come up and asked, all the waiting passengers, if they wanted to buy medication. He didn't say if he was selling prescription or non-prescription pain medication or some other type of medication. None of us wanted to purchase whatever type of medication he was selling, but we did laugh after he left. The reason we laughed is because the guy was either an undercover cop looking for an arrest or desperate for money. If he was desperate for money, he wasn't thinking straight because any one of us could have been an undercover cop, in which case he would have been arrested as soon as the deal was done.
