Write a Halloween themed entry using the following words:
bat, pumpkin, candy, spooky, night, orange, black, witch, scary, wind.

Happy Halloween

In the candy corn sunset,
a Halloween wind
transforms orange and black clouds
decorating the night sky
for All Hallows Eve.

Spooky echoes reverberate
through the boughs
of elm and oak,
sending bat
and witchs
in search of the Great Pumpkin,
while the moon cast
scary shadows
across concrete avenues.

When I was a child, living in Blackwell, Oklahoma, I enjoyed Halloween. I enjoyed dressing up and trick or treating. Grandma enjoyed it, as well. Grandma always made cookies for the neighbor kids that came trick or treating. Since all of the neighbors knew her, they had no problems with the treats she gave out. In fact, all children in the neighborhood call her Grandma. It was a badge of honor, and she knew all the children's names, even when they wore masks Grandma recognized them and called them by name.

When Mom was alive, she enjoyed seeing the trick or treaters. We always had candy to give them. For a while we had a Springer spaniel, called Specs, who like to see the trick or treaters. Whenever a group of costumed children would ring the bell or knock, Specs would go to the door, but she wouldn't bark. She knew the children were wearing costumes, and her tail would wag. I don't give out treats anymore, on Halloween I close the door and the shades. I don't answer the door unless its friends, who will call me and tell me they're at my door.

You might not believe in ghost stories, but…

Ghost Stories

You might not believe in ghost stories, but they are out there. Ghost stories make their appearance most often at Halloween parties to frighten the party goers. Ghost stories are fun to listen to, to tell, and to write; as long as one doesn't get too big of a fright. The imagination can be a friend or a foe, it can frighten you or make you think.

If you don't leash your imagination it can be your foe. It can take you through a frightening skating rink, and if you don't question everything you think. Ghost stories are fun to tell, as long as you take them with a grain of salt or a couple of jalapeño popper with a little ranch dressing or maybe some tartar sauce. Don't let your own ghost stories frighten you, it's always better for them to frighten the ghost, protagonist, or antagonist in the story. Keep writing and telling stories about ghost, and you will be the Halloween host with the most ghost stories.

When telling a ghost story, don't begin with "Once upon a time" unless your telling about a haunted castle. Try to place your ghost in unexpected places, such as a ranch style house, to make to make the story either more or less believable. Avoid clichés and cliché locations, to make your ghost story memorable and unboring. Halloween is coming so write and tell ghost stories to your heart's content. Make Wednesday, October 31, a ghost story telling day, and remember to write your stories down because you will need them again next year.

Happy Halloween!
Don't let your ghost stories be too frightening.

The Midnight HOurs

In the midnight hours when the body is asleep the soul is free to roam. To traverse the realms of space and time. To looked to the future or across the planet. To explore the world of other stars and galaxies. To look into the gravity well of faith and see spiritual reality. And, when the sleepless body lays staring into the darkness, to intone a prayer of gratitude for the opportunity to commune with the Almighty Creator.

“The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else.”
― Umberto Eco, Travels in Hyperreality-
Are heroes cowards inside? What do you think?

Heroes

I don't think anyone, is a hero by mistake. People become heroes because they find themselves either at the right place at the right time, or the wrong place at the wrong time. People become heroes because they do what they have to do in difficult situations. People become heroes in accordance with God's will because they find themselves in a situation where their voices or strength is needed; it is never a mistake when someone becomes a hero.

As I looked at the Jack-o-Lantern, it seemed to be looking back at me. Then…

What Happened Then

As I looked at the Jack-o-Lantern, it seemed to be looking back at me. Then it rose from the wooden porch, like a UFO lifting off, and floated into the front yard. It landed in the center of the purple-pink azalea shrub, I had planted near the Pinus banksiana or Jack pine. There the Jack-o-Lantern begin to expand and grow until it covered that entire section of the yard. As the Jack-o-Lantern grew, I noticed that the pine tree seemed to move back, in order to give the Jack-o-Lantern room to grow.

Because I hadn't been able to sleep in three or four weeks, I figured I was having a waking dream. I knew that extended periods of insomnia can cause people to hallucinate. I figured the best thing to do was to go into the house, fix myself a tall mug of hot chocolate, and attempt to go to sleep. I presumed that when I woke up the Jack-o-Lantern and my front yard would be back to normal. Unfortunately, that's not how things worked out.

When I woke up the next day, at least I think it was the next day, the Jack-o-Lantern was bigger and there was a news crew filming the scene. To make matters worse, a reporter was interviewing the Jack-o-Lantern. I walked up to the reporter, but before I could say anything she turned to me and said, "Congratulations! You are this year's winner of the Halloween Yard decoration contest." Then she handed me two passes for Zak Bagans' The Haunted Museum   located at 600 East Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Happy Halloween

“We're all a beautiful, wonderful work in progress....Embrace the process!”
Nanette Mathews

The "Blogging Circle of Friends prompt for DAY 2171
Work in Progress

A work in progress explains my entire life. Moving forward through a fog to an unseen destination on a mountain top. Attempting to draw a map, while traveling down a road that no one else is going to travel, so their isn't any need for the map. That's really all life is for the individual human being. We are born, we learn or don't lear spiritual values from our families. After we attain the age of maturity, we realize that we are still a work in progress. A work in progress that won't be finished until the day we die.

A work in progress that's what we are to God,
A stage in the spiritual evolution of humanity.

Being a work in progress is more difficult for some individual then for others. Or maybe it just seems that way when were in the middle of the plot and suddenly we are sent off in a different direction. As long as we continue to move forward and learn something about ourselves or the universe, we are making progress. The only thing an individual can do is place their faith in God, by whatever name they know the creator. Say a prayer of gratitude for another day of life, and attempt to help your fellow human being by understanding that they are also works in progress.

If you could create your very own monster, what would it look like?
What would it be called? What types of things would it do to scare people?
Where does the monster live?
Tell me everything there is to know about your monster.

I've contemplated this prompt almost all night, and I've came to the conclusion that no monster, created by the mind or muse of an author, is a frightening as the real monsters stalking the world today. This doesn't mean that the monsters in books or on screen aren't scary, it just means that we know we are safe from them once we leave the theater or put down the book.

This is a monster I'm using in one of my novels. It has the head and neck of a cobra and the body of a human. The males are muscular, resembling a body builder or warrior. The bodies of the females are shapely, and, in most cases, resemble the body of a beautiful starlet or model. These creatures can be used in both fantasy and science fiction stories because they can use any type of weapons that humanoids can weld. The only difference would be the way they are dressed, because in fantasy they would wear either loin cloths or some type of ancient armor. I science fiction they would wear military uniforms and use lasers.

The language is composed of hissing sounds, and when they speaker another language they have a hissing accent. Like most monsters, created in myth and literature, they are evil and their descriptions reveal them as evil. Unfortunately, in real life monsters don't look evil, but resemble ordinary human beings. If the real life monsters looked evil we would be less trusting of them in both our personal and political lives.

Kelly Osbourne was born in 1984 today. Write a pitch for your own talk show- what would you talk about? Whom would you invite to interview?

Talk shows aren't my cup of coffee. When Mom was alive, we would watch them together. I found them enjoyable, and, somewhat, educational the first few times. After about the the first week or so, the shows became repetitive and showy, while featuring the same issues with different guests. They covered the surface of whatever issue the guests had, and didn't get deeply enough into the education part to help audience members suffering or dealing with the those issues in their personal life.

This brings me to the type of talk show I would want to host. It would have an international theme, and the guest would be from across the world. The first guest I would want is Sahle-Work Zewde, Ethiopia's first female president  . Next I would want architects Henry Lape and Saeed Granfar, who collaborated3 on the design of the Papa New Guinea Baha'i House of Worship, which was unveiled on March 21, 2018, Design of national temple unveiled at Naw-Ruz amidst great joy  . Another person I would want to feature is Kevin Locke  , a Lakota Hoop Dancer, who has performed internationally. I would, also, want to have Mahvash Sabet author of Prison Poems  . There are other individuals I would want, such as the secretary-general of the United Nations.

I don't want this talk show to be an everyday occurrence. I think once a week would be enough, because I would want to keep the program fresh. It would be difficult to keep a daily talk show fresh, educational, and exciting. Since this talk show would have international subjects, I think once a week would be better. The tile would be "Meet the World" or something like that, possibly even "World Citizens".

Hillary Clinton turns 70 today! Wish her a happy birthday (if you're so inclined) and write up a candidacy speech for your own head of government campaign.

Birthday Wish and Thoughts on Politics

Happy Birthday Hillary!
I wish you a safe and happy birthday,
with all your family.

I don't do candidacy speeches, except as part of a flash fiction, short story, or novel. As for a candidacy speech for a government campaign this year, or within the next one-hundred years, is out of the question. I am so sick of the political bullying that went on in this midterm campaign, that I have already written one "Candidate Rant. This rant applies to all candidates equally, because I am an equal opportunity ranter. As for Mrs. Clinton, I have never meat the lady; however, I am sure I would like her. If I ever did meet her, I would steer the conversation away from politics and onto something a little more pleasant. Like the weather on Venus or Mars.

I sent in my absentee ballot yesterday, so I am no longer listening or reading campaign ads of any type. The political items, I am willing to respond to (without ranting) are political polls. I know that the November 6 election will not put an end to the political rhetoric or stone throwing. In fact, I believe the results of this midterm election will only increase the negativity and half-truths spewed by potential presidential candidates; and I am not looking forward to that. However, there is nothing I can do about that.

On the positive side, the precampaign electioneering will give me a chance to investigate, and come to a decision on who I might be willing to vote for in the 2020 Presidential Election. I am registered nonpartisan or independent (depending on individual definitions of the words), so I do not vote in the party primaries. This frees me from worrying about who I will vote for as President of the United States, until closer to the November 2020 general election. As a nonpartisan, I can (hopefully) look at the candidates with a dispassionate point of view and decide which one I can vote for.

Use these words to discuss your favorite political candidate----- talk, season, reform, earth, wax and ribbon

Candidate Rant

I don't have a favorite political candidate, when I vote--which I do in midterm and presidential elections--I attempt to find the lesser of the two evil and vote for that candidate. When I hear them talk they, glaze over the issues that I find important and, throw verbal stones at their opponents. They accuse their opponents of taking bribes money from special interest or walking their party's line, when they, themselves, are guilty of the same sin. They claim to work for unity, but the only time they do is when the issue is of minor importance in their party's agenda.

I hear their rhetoric of reform, of carrying about the earth, of carrying about immigrants, of overhauling the Medicare and Medicaid systems, and bringing down medical cost. I, also, know that many of them are taking kickbacks from Big Pharma or any other special interest group that is willing to pay them for their vote by pumping money into their campaigns. As the campaign season advances the candidates' bullying of their opponents wax, while they present themselves with blue ribbons for fooling their constituents.

On October 25, 1616, the Dutch discovered Australia.   Write a journal entry as one of the explorers.

Thank God, we sighted land. I can't remember the last time I was ashore, though I may not want to go ashore here. I don't know what kind of savages we'll encounter, if we encounter any creatures that aren't wild animals. Still, it will be nice to walk on dry land again. The Captain and First Mate haven't said much since the Crow's Nest shouted "Land Ho!" The only one they've talked to is the cook, who probably complained we were running low on salt pork or whatever meat he's been feeding us for last several weeks. I'd like a bit of hen or wild boar, myself. I'd like anything that hasn't been salted and packed in barrels since we set out on this voyage.

I went aft early this morning, and stood on the poop deck. The sun rose clear, there was no red sky, so we don't have to worry about storms today. Afterwards I walked along the port side of the ship, I wanted to get a better view of the approaching land. I couldn't see much. but I did hear birds. They sounded like regular gulls and not albatross, so we're not in for any bad luck when we land. I caught a glimpse of green while I was looking landward, that means fresh water.

This piece of land could indicate this voyage will earn a profit. Not that any of us ordinary sailors will be paid more, still I need to keep my eyes open when we land. There could be something valuable I could slip aboard, and sell when we get back home. Getting off The Eendracht for a few hours will be a good change.

Today in History: The first football team formed in Sheffield, England. Make up your own sport and tell us how it's played.

I'm not a sports fan. The only sports I watch on television, or follow online, are the Olympics. Even with those, there are certain sport I follow closer than others. During the Winter Olympics, I like the to watch the ice dancing and single skating competitions. Sometime will watch the luge, and the skiing competitions. During the Summer Olympics I prefer to watch the swimming events. Sometimes I'll watch the rowing events, but this depends on which country is in the lead. I'll watch the running competitions if I've heard of one of the competitors.

I don't make a habit of watching football, baseball, or soccer; although, I might consider watching a ice hockey. This depends on whether the Las Vegas Golden Knights are one of the teams. Since I live on a fixed income, I doubt I would pay to go the stadium to see them. On the other hand, if someone payed my way in I would attend a game, and root for the Knights.

My sport is called Blogging the World. It is played by two or more writers, who create blogs specifically for this competition. Each participant begins in his/her own city and/or nation. The person has one week to find something unique about the city or nations, and write a 300 word blog post on why the item/location is unique. Grammar and spelling count and errors will be deducted from the from the possible 100 points. For the next entry, the bloggers switch locations. They have to find something unique, but different from the last blogger's entry. The next leg of the competition takes the bloggers to different country to find something unique. The competition continues until the bloggers have visited 100 different countries in on the planet.

The new normal. You have something devastating happen to you and you have to get your life back to normal.
Have you ever had a new normal?

New Normal

At 71 years and 10 months, I've went through a lot of new normal experiences. The death of a loved one or close friend always begins a new normal. You go through the stages of grief, without ever getting over the grief and missing the person. Sometimes the loved one returns in a dream to comfort, and show that in the spiritual world they are still thinking of you. Sometimes a scent simultaneously generates a tear and a smile, this is just another way the loved one is attempting to send comfort from the spiritual world. Eventually, one gets beyond the stages of grief and the new normal is established.

In your experience, which is worse breaking a bone or getting a sprain? Share with us your story. This walking wounded is looking for someone to commiserate with. You know misery loves company.

Broken Bone or Sprain

I have never, knock on wood (as my grandmother used to say), broken a bone. I have, however, sprained both ankles. This occurred when I stepped out of a pickup truck into a ditch. This, of course, was my own fault because I wasn't looking where I was disembarking the truck. My right ankle was worse than my left, because I stepped out of the passenger side and my right foot was the first to hit the ground. I learned to look where i was stepping instead of at the person--in the driver's seat--I was talking to.

I suspect that a broken bone is worse. I have know two people who broke bones. The first was a school friend, we attended some sort of school sports function. She stumbled over something and broke her wrist, she was in a cast for several weeks. The other person was my grandmother, she slipped on ice, one winter's day, when she walked out of the house and broke her right arm. Grandpa took her to the hospital emergency room. The doctor set the bone and she went on with her life.

Choose a Famous Birthday   for today and tell us why you think they should be celebrated.

Celebrating Famous Birthday

I have no objection to celebrities friends, families, or fans celebrating their birthday. I don't think any celebrities birthday should be celebrated by the general public. I don't follow celebrities or make a practice of reading celebrity news. I believe celebrities have a right to a personal life, and birthdays are a personal matter. Some celebrities enjoy big parties, with a lot of publicity. Some of them, I suspect, would prefer a small gathering of close personal friends and associates. I went through the "crazy over celebrities" phase as a preteen and teenager. I out grew that somewhere between my eighteenth and twentieth birthdays.

I don't care to "follow them" on Facebook or any other social network. I will read articles about them, if the headline catches my eye and arouses my curiosity. If the celebrity admits dealing with alcoholism, drug addiction, sexual harassment, or a devastating illness--such as Alzheimer's disease, mental illness, or cancer--I have more respect for them. When a celebrity admits to confronting these issues, it focuses publicity on these illnesses, and publicity means ordinary people will be more willing to admit they deal with these problems in their families.

With certain exceptions, I have more respect for celebrities, who acknowledge their religion or spiritual path publicly. The exception in this case concerns their actions, and the way those actions reflect on their chosen faith or spiritual path. While a celebrity can't always choose screen roles that reflect their spiritual path, they can choose the way they act off screen, which is a good indication of what they believe. However, it isn't up to me to judge a celebrity or anyone else; the only thing I can do is to remember them in my prayers.

The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise prompt for DAY 1771
“One of the basic rules of the universe is that nothing is perfect. Perfection simply doesn't exist.....Without imperfection, neither you nor I would exist.” Stephen Hawking I guess this means we’re all in this together. What do you think about imperfection?

Perfection

I disagree because there are degrees of perfection in the universe. I look at a rose, I think it is a perfect specimen of a rose. A week or so later, I see another rose, with a different color, and seen in it as a perfect rose. In both cases, I am right because the second rose has a higher degree of perfection than the first rose.

Perfection is a spiritual attribute, a characteristic of the Almighty Unknowable Creator of the universe. Because we cannot know the Almighty directly and our minds cannot understand Divine Perfection, we have to have examples of this. We can see examples of Divine Perfection in the Manifestations of God, who reflect the attributes of God to us. Examples of Divine Perfection can be seen in Christ, Mohammad, Buddha, the Bab, and Baha'u'llah (to name just a few).

Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us. Samuel Smiles Let this quote inspire your blog entry.

Hope

Hope is movement!
It is always going forward
toward an unseen,
and possibly unknown
destination.

Hope is knowing
that the shadow following
is yesterday's fears,
and desires
attempting to hang on.

In 1964 today, Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre won the Nobel Prize for Literature and turned it down. Make up a reason why.

I have no idea why Mr. Sartre turned down the Nobel Prize for Literature; I suspect it may have had something to do with his political beliefs. Other, logical, reason could be he didn't want the prize, or he was, somewhat, modest when it came to his own writing and felt that the prize suggested he had reach the pinnacle of his literary career. He didn't give a reason, which is his business. Each writer has their own reasons for accepting or rejecting an important literary prize.

Since he didn't give a reason, it doesn't matter why he rejected it. In order, for me to write a coherent reason, I would have to do more research on the gentleman, his family, his family's belief system, his life experiences, his belief systems, and how his beliefs changed over the years. All of these things, either subtly or overtly, play a roll in the choices we make everyday. All of these things, in someway, affects an author's writings. Without knowing, every detail about an author's life (which is impossible) the reason an author accepts or rejects a prize is never obvious.

Since I haven't read enough of Mr. Sartre's words to hazard a guess, I'm leaving that to someone else. His biographer, if there is one, would probably be able to come to a logical conclusion on Mr. Sartre's reasons for turning down the prize.

On this day (October 21) in 1949- Aldous Huxley writes George Orwell to congratulate him on the novel, 1984. If you were dictator of the world, what would you do? *Ha*

Emperor of the World

I don't want to be Emperor of the world or even King/Queen of the Hill, because I'm sure there would be someone else out there trying to push me off the throne or the hill. However, if I was made Emperor--in a duly confirmed election--I would graciously accept the job. I would implement a few necessary changes; after appointing cabinet members from the indigenous peoples across the planet.

I would implement universal health care and education. Everyone, over the age of 18 and in decent health, would be require to give a year of service in some nation, other than the one they were born in. Energy methods that don't destroy the environment would be given top priority. Colonies would be established on the moon, Mars, and anyplace else in the solar system where we could construct them. Each family and/or individual would be given a plot of land to grow their own food. Each nation would be required to contribute to planetary security though troops and military vehicles.

I would implement two language classes in school. In one of the classes the native language of the country would be taught. The other class would be in a universal or world language, because one of the problems with the planet is communications difficulties. Another required class would be a life skills and/or survival class because many people don't know how to deal with the real world. Libraries in the grades would be appropriate to the grade level, without banning any book. This would allow young people to be exposed to a wider variety of ideas as they grew and learned how to ask questions and search for truth themselves.

I would implement a virtues class, not a religious class, because virtues cross religious, national, and political boundaries. One of the problems with the world today is lack of knowledge about virtues and lack of practice.

I am looking forward to November, because...
Give us as many reason as you want about why you are looking forward to November.

I am looking forward to November, because the Twin Holy Days will be celebrated in on November 9 and 10. These are my favorites because they celebrate the Birth of the Bab and the Birth of Baha'u'llah. Since 2015, these two Holy Days are celebrated on "the first and the second day following the occurrence of the eighth new moon after Naw-Rúz".4 This means that these celebrations fall on different day each year.

Other days to remember in November are World Citizen Day   on November 4, Universal Children's Day   on November 20, Thanksgiving Day on November 22, the Day of the Covenant on November 26, and the Ascension of 'Abd'l-Baha on November 28. Since I'm not planning on participating in NaNoWriMo this year, I'll focus on other writing activities, such as "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS and different contests.

Write about the weather where you are. Looks like on the weather channel, there's quite a variance among us.

It's a beautiful autumn day here in Las Vegas. The sun is shining through a few fluffy white clouds. The birds are singing, the people are play and making happy sounds. I don't hear any dogs barking or cat meowing, so they are probably happily sleeping, playing, or staring at their people.

Write a list of 5 things you like/love about yourself!

Five Things I Like About Myself

This prompt is getting me out of my comfort zone, which is a good thing. I normally don't think about, or even list, the things about myself that I like. I think it has to do with leftover dogma from my childhood. I was taught, or picked up from the way other people talked and acted, that I wasn't supposed to consider the good things about myself. This may be part of my low self-esteem issues, which I still confront.

*Cut* I cut and dye my gray hair once a month. This is a wonderful achievement because it makes me feel younger. I don't like to have my hair too long because it's difficult to wash, dry, and take care of, with short hair I can use a brush to keep it neat.

*Laugh* My sense of humor, which is improving with the years. True there are many who may believe my sense of humor is weird, among other things, that's alright. As long as I can laugh, and find some of things I do amusing it doesn't matter what other people think.

*Quill* I write poetry. I write poetry about anything that inspires me. I have several poems and books in my port that contain my poems. There are two books--"Devotional Poetry and "Poem Experiments--that I had poem to just about every week. The goal is to add poem to them every day or so.

*Spider* I'm confronting and overcoming my fear of spiders. A few days ago, when I went into the bathroom, there was a huge--it looked to me like it was gigantic--spider crawling around the trashcan. I went after the bitch, and killed it.

*Planet* I'm a world citizen, who was born and lives in the United States. I attempt to practice my citizenship through activities in the nation of my birth.
