PROMPT July 20th

Write a letter to an old friend or lover that you’ll never send.

Dear Kerry,
I haven’t seen you now for forty five years. Ever since we, that is John and I, and you and your husband went to the fireman’s ball.
I asked if you’d like to come with us to the dance and you said you would love to. I paid for the tickets, we both organised baby sitters. So excited were we to be going out to a fancy do. A chance to dress up, forget the kids and kick up our heels.
We had a good time, we danced had a few too many drinks, but that was great. We deserved it.
Then your husband started getting too friendly with me. It was okay though, he was a little drunk. I laughed it off.
The next day I dropped in to see you to dish the dirt after I dropped off Sarah at school. But you wouldn’t answer the door. You wouldn’t answer my calls.
And that was that! My best friend. You never spoke to me ever again. You didn’t even pay me for the tickets!
What happened, Kerry? I never understood, never got over the hurt.

PROMPT July 19th

In this entry, please don't share information that is very personal. That being said, what are some things that most people don’t know about you?

I'm pretty much an open book. I'm not a person who doesn't share. I hate bottling things up so I probably reveal too much of myself.
There are probably things though I don't reveal about myself. I'm thinking...
1. I'm not a cat lover. Sorry. I love dogs though.
2.I'm a terrible sleeper
3.I hate sewing
4.I have arm envy! I check out peoples arms since I've got older. I'd love to wear sleeveless dresses and have nice firm toned arms. I hate my wrinkly arms. I don't talk about it but I stay covered up.
5.I don't like the aging process. I know it's better than the alternative! But still let's all agree, getting old sucks!
6.I am claustrophobic, I hate large crowds and enclosed places.

PROMPT July 18th

Everyone likes to eat, some of us are picky if circumstances allow. Tonight, you're the cook, and you're preparing your favorite meal. What are you preparing for us? Share the recipe for it if you like

I’m not cooking tonight so you’ve come to the wrong place. It’s my pre birthday lunch today. We’ve just come home from the pub and I’m feeling quite mellow. We’ve eaten, between the fifteen of those who turned up, a variety of yummy dishes. I’ll tell you some of the food we demolished. Of course some of these gourmands were youngsters so their taste buds aren’t very sophisticated yet. Soooo there was the usual fast food stuff for the kids: chicken nuggets, burgers and chips.
Then my husband had a deep fried Camembert cheese with salad. I had salt and pepper calamari. My daughter had vegetarian dumplings with dipping sauce. Steak sandwiches, Guinness pie and potato and cheese soup.
So if I was inviting you all to this feast, I have to say, look at your watches guys. You’re too.late.

PROMPT July 17th

Tonight, you're a seer. Tell me (us) (predict, if you will) what's going to happen in the next 3-5 years.

Oh my! I’ve never been one for telling the future. I’m a non believer if you will. However as I need to predict the future for this exercise I’ll put on my kaftan, turban, and beads. I’m polishing up my Crystal ball.
Come in to my tent and cross my palm with silver.

Well come on in. Welcome to my tent, make yourself comfortable and give me your hand.

I see that 2020 was a destroyer of plans. You had intentions of travelling across many oceans to a land far away. I can see the green fields of England where your family are waiting still, their arms open wide to grasp you to their bosoms.
I predict that you may not be making that journey in the foreseeable future. Covid 19 has not finished with us yet, the Delta strain is just getting going and is planning on circumnavigating the vaccines available to us in 2021.
I see more babies arriving both in 2021 and ‘22. Your family will enlarge giving you many years of pleasure.
I do not think you will write that best-seller. You will however still continue to gain happiness from your writing.
The best news of all, I see in my crystal ball a daughter, lost to a substance finding her way back. She will surprise you with her determination to beat her demons and find the happiness long denied her.

Thank you so much for visiting. I hope I have been of help.

PROMPT July 16th

Here we are, half way through the month already! This is what I hope is a different sort of prompt. Almost everyone has them, so tell us about your favorite restaurant. In the past, mine have been Pappadeaux, Abuelos, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, and others. Do you have any?

Oh, now you're asking! I hardly ever go to restaurants these days. In the past when we were younger and maybe had a bit more discretionary cash, we went out more. My favourite sort of meal is Thai. We went to Thailand for seven weeks, backpacking all over their beautiful country. I loved their food and have tried to find it here in Australia. There are of course many Thai restaurants but do they stack up to the original? Debatable.
When we were in Vietnam I actually hated the food, there were weird offerings. The one I remember was pigs uterus. Needless to say I didn't partake. But we went to an Italian restaurant in Nah Trang and had the best Ravioli I have ever had. Still I seek that perfection, silky pasta with ricotta and spinach. The sauce was to die for. Maybe it was so nice because of all the terrible food I'd had to deal with for two weeks.
When the kids were young though, Pizza Hut was the go to place. Red and white checked tablecloths and Pizza. I always had Deep Dish Cavatini. Mmm.
When we arrived in Perth after a 36 hour flight from England and a long night in a reception centre, we were looking for somewhere to live. A real Estate agent took us to look at houses. We said we were starving and we stopped at Hungry Jacks for a Whopper Burger. That hamburger was the best thing I've ever eaten in my whole life. That was in 1972 and that chain of restaurants had only just started in Australia.
So on reflection I guess the best restaurants are the ones that feed you when you're absolutely starving!

PROMPT July 15th

There have been many influencers on you as you have aged. Tonght, write about the person who has had the greatest impact on your life.

I thought I’d miss out on today’s blog because I am away with friends for an early birthday get together. We’re staying at a hotel with very iffy internet. I have found a nook which has a little so I’m dashing this off quickly before I’m plunged back into darkness🤣

The person who has the greatest impact? I actually don’t think I have anyone who influenced my life a lot. I listen to people’s advice, opinions and persuasive arguments then I usually make my own mind up as to the direction I take. I suppose my husband is the one I take most advice from, and my darling daughter. She is a great influence on all the family. She is very wise. Maybe she got that from me?
Anyway that’s all I have time to write, we’re off to the theatre now.
Will try to find the time before the deadline to comment on all the others doing the 30 DBC.

PROMPT July 14th

We all celebrate holidays of some type. Which one of the lesser known holidays is your favorite? (You cannot talk about Christmas/Thanksgiving or their equivalent in your country in this entry.)

Since being retired I don’t actually care about holidays. Every day is the same to me. But when I was a child the holiday I loved best, after the one’s we can’t mention, was PancakeDay. Or Shrove Tuesday to give it its proper name.
Mum used to stand at the stove and make stack after stack of pancakes. We used to squeeze fresh oranges on to them and lots of sugar.
What Happened to Whitsun?

When I was a child the biggest Church festivals were Christmas, Easter, Harvest Festival, and Whitsuntide. Christmas, Easter, Whitsun and Harvest also tied in with school holidays. Whereas Christian churches still celebrate all these and some others throughout the year, the general population seems to have forgotten all about Whitsun. Whitsuntide was the name given to the whole occasion with Whit Sunday and Whit Monday being the two main days. In Britain, the weekend is always the last weekend in May, the Monday is an official holiday and the week always coincides with a half term school holiday. However, the weekend, the bank holiday Monday and the associated school holiday are now always known as Spring Bank Holiday.
But Whitsun used to be special. Children always got new clothes, and maybe a new toy.

PROMPT July 13th

We've all loved someone deeply. Tonight, instead of writing about your love for someone else, write about being loved.
This is a tricky one. How can I write about other’s feelings for me?
I feel that I’m loved by some people. I’m pretty sure my husband of 56 years loves me, or else why is he still here annoying me🤣
My grown up children, who have their own families to care for, love me in their way.. Although I think that their love has morphed into concern or a type of fondness. I only hope it’s not one of responsibility.
My grandchildren (some of them more than others) show their love by going out of their busy lives to spend time with me.
The great grandchildren, bless them, just know I’m part of their family and give me hugs.

PROMPT July 12th

We've all done it. At least I have. Write about a time you were inappropriately dressed for the occasion.

I remember it well. Having just come out of the sixties in swinging England, arriving in stuffy outdated old Perth city I felt we’d travelled back in time. Gone was the colour television we were back to black and white for many more years. Fashion was different, but so was the weather!
Anyway we met a few people in our first few weeks, they were very friendly in our new city.
We were invited to the Annual Fireman’s dance, so we were very grateful to have been accepted so quickly and accepted the invitation,
When we arrived at the ‘Ball’ every lady was wearing a long ball gown whilst I rocked up in a little groovy minidress. Whoops!

PROMPT July 11th

Write a headline you’d love to read in tomorrow’s newspaper.

I was very happy with today's headline in Australia when our girl Ash Barty won Wimbledon. She was the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon for over fifty years. She is a darling girl, so modest and family oriented.
I am not a person who follows any particular sport and I have lived in Australia for fifty years, but tonight there is a football match in the European cup between England and Italy. I'd love the headline that said that England had won. Still a Pommy girl at heart.
That is all very light news and compared to all the heartache that is happening in the world, insignificant. So perhaps. to read the news headlines that Covid 19 had suddenly decided to leave and not return would be wonderful. This damn disease is still wreaking havoc all over the world.
I'd also love to hear/read that the Taliban in Afghanistan had been defeated. The last of our Australian troops left today after twenty years of peacekeeping. Nothing the Australian or United States military has done over all those years has made any difference in the long run despite so many deaths of the soldiers.
