Restrictions: None
Indianapolis, Indiana
First, I will state that I am not a Nascar fan. That is my hubby's passion/interest/obsession. I side with a comedian who described the so-called exciting activity on a race track as "Oh look. A driver just turned left. He did it again. And again I see him turning left."
I endure enough of the ear-splitting revs, tire squeals, the unmistakable crashing wrench of metal/fibre glass and the speculative, minute-by-minute commentary my room mate listens to with complete absorption. He is spell bound. He watches with bated breath. He dare not vacate his chair. He too dissects the inevitable crashes. I hear terms like drafting and bumping. Green flags, yellow flags, whatever. Nope, Nascar is not my cup of tea.
If I should let slip a comment or question about the tight, restrictive harness worn by drivers, or wonder out loud about the neck restraints I am either ignored or lectured. Huh, I would not subject myself to limited head movement while bumping/jostling along amidst a roaring, surging crowd of race cars. I do believe it is a small miracle that any cars survive to actually finish and/or win a race. It's bumper cars on steroids!
The Brickyard, I will concede, is a gigantic compound of 560 acres. The immense infield alone is 253 acres. Quite the mecca for aficionados. I can see that it is a bustling, business empire.
Yep, I paid attention to the tour guide's explanation of this track's name. Originally, it had been constructed of loose dirt and gravel which did not prove conducive or safe for speeding vehicles. Bricks became the replacement material until such a time as they were covered in asphalt. Uh huh, got it.
Lyn's a Witchy Woman Author Icon My spouse would one day die a happy man if he'd experienced this race track once. If, and this is a huge if, we should perchance visit Indianapolis I'd be armed with ear plugs/noise-cancelling head set and a book.
