One Lone Candle
The nights are dark, which end the year.
We need but the smallest light.
One hopeful candle chases fear.
One soul just acting right.

So many voices hurt my ears.
Such din when needing peace.
The crickets cease when danger nears.
Will stillness give release?

When one lone candle shines its light
the darkness is not whole.
The flame, it flickers against the night.
The holding back, its goal.

The darkness blows to put it out.
The light seems meager at best,
but the Light of the world is ne'er in doubt
when facing even this test.

The Light of life will speak at last.
The darkness then will bow.
No shadows e'er will then be cast
in the Day of lasting Now.
