Escape

Holdfast was sure that he was being watched. Even as he walked down the street, he could feel a presence behind him.

Deciding quickly, Holdfast ducked into a barbershop that he was passing. He kept going past the row of chairs and customers and entered the rear room. The back door was unlocked; he opened it and left. He found himself in a back alley and hurried on through several twists and turns until he felt the tail must have been dropped. He looked around.

For the life of him, he couldn’t remember where he had been going that day.
