| All it took was a shadow in the shop window. Victor turned quickly, scanning the storefront. Everything was desolate, as was his new normal. The momentary hope had shriveled and died, leaving withering uncertainty behind. He sighed and continued walking, making sure to keep an eye out for anything that shifted. He saw it again. This time in a mirror outside an abandoned barbershop. He looked around wildly but saw nothing. "Come out!" He called, feeling a bit foolish. "No one likes a spy." Was that laughter or the wind? It was the wind, of course. Everyone else was dead. |
