A blog of no uncertain musings. What goes on in my mind is often a source of wonder to me. |
The results of a Survey about the Newsfeed:
The comment section for "Note: In March I posted a very short survey about Use ...". I didn't identify the person making the comments on purpose. But you know what you said. Some comments for the Community side included: I think they both serve different purposes and I use both of them a lot. The community newsfeed provides everything. While the personal newsfeed lets you focus on contacts that you might miss due to the overload of information. I read the Community Newsfeed because I'm less likely to miss announcements about interesting new contests, and when I have time. I like to greet new members …. My settings are so that when I click on the WDC logo on the top left of the screen, it takes me to the Community Newsfeed, so it's rare that I remember I even have a private one. While the PERSONAL is quicker, the COMMUNITY is more comprehensive. Reading the community Newsfeed introduces me to members who are not on my favorite or fan list. I can't remember if I ever clicked on the personal option. I want to meet new people and find comments that illicit a response from me. As everything goes into the community newsfeed by default, the personal one seems redundant. I could only see the personal one having a benefit if it was separate from the community one, allowing you to alert your followers to e.g. new items without bothering everyone. Some comments for the Personal side included: I spend most of my time on my personal newsfeed, because it contains members whose posts I have come to enjoy over the years. The reasons I enjoy them may be because their posts are funny, informative, highlight contests, and so on. I do every now and then read the community newsfeed, though. That's how I find new people to add to my personal newsfeed. I’m always kind of nervous about meeting new people, ones that I don’t know if what they post is decent. Also, I can barely keep up with the people I’ve fanned - it’s hard to handle a ton of strangers. I follow so many people that, for me, the community Newsfeed is almost pointless. If it weren't for new members posting a thing or two, I'd never check it. And once I do, I tend to add them to my ever-growing list of people so, personal it is I guess. The Personal comes up automatically. I'm on the Community feed to do this poll but ofttimes forget to check it. Too much to scroll through... besides, I've been here so long it's hard to tell them apart! Comments for the Both sides included: I like both types of settings for different reasons. When I come to the Newsfeed for the first time of the day, I prefer my PERSONAL newsfeed. As I follow some people specifically, I want to see what they have been up to. However, once I've scrolled down that list, I always choose COMMUNITY next to see who else has posted. My preference is: having the ability to toggle back and forth between these two settings. I monitor both. I cut down my Personal Newsfeed and use it when I have slower wifi or time. With good internet and plenty of time, I look at both. Personal first then Community… |
