May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

Opinion I shared at YCC re trains:

I think a maglev between major cities is the answer for business people. Minneapolis-Chicago-SaintLouis-Memphis-NewOrleans comes to mind: (408-297-283-395 miles) 1 hour runs with 10 minute layover = less than 5 hours (could be faster). A "slower train with more stops averaging 200 mph = 7 hours, more stops and averaging 100 mph = 14 hours. The slowest train could use no-freight routes with an even slower trains with whistle stops averaging 60 mph (in other words... you can't drive there in less time) in 22 hours or so. If anyone is smart they have A, B and C routes (covering more towns and more states). More places + more states = more support on all levels. Where to put the tracks? Down the interstate highways. Frankly, I'm tired of the American no-can-do attitude.

Opinion I shared at YCC re climate collapse:

I look out my window = no collapse.
I go to lunch with fellow seniors = no collapse.

I do believe that we have ignored the perils while folks choose either to deny the possibility or welcome it.

As I say, I look around and there's no collapse but I see the warning signs and I sound the sirens ... to a mostly deaf and dumb audience (selfish, self-centered, ignorant).

Opinion I shared at YCC re Texas Tragedy:

Local tragedy from years ago in my city. Man froze to death a couple days before he had housing because the severe winter weather shelter wasn't open as they opened on a calendar date instead of opening when the weather turned cold... To connect the dots: impersonal, non-caring systems lead to tragedies that are easily avoided.
