November 2025 novel (section 2)
After exploring the kitchen, the women decided to go upstairs. Their was bedrooms upstairs all furnished with sheets covering most of the furniture. The main bedroom was upstairs and it had a huge walk in closet attached and a big master bathroom with a jacuzi and walk in shower and a garden tub and a small cubby with the toilet was off to one side. It was the picture of elegance. Both women looked at it all with awe!

Ayah said to her friend, "Pinch me! Am I dreaming? This can't be real."

Her firend said, "Oh! It's real, but I don't believe it myself. This place is big and beautiful. Do you need a room mate?"

Ayah, laughed, "You can move in with me if you want to. I'm the only owner of this property now and it's kind of huge for just one person don't you think?"

"I might just take you up on that offer."

They went into all of the bedrooms. There was a shared bathroom which was almost but not quite as elegant for the other bedrooms to share. The rooms seemed to go on and on. They finally reached the end of the hallway and another set of stairs. When they descended the stairs, they found their way into another large room that looked like a living/entertainment area. To the side of it, was a large library room and small office on the other side of that.

After viewing the library and the office, they came back into the living area and went through the other door of the room. Here they found a small fitness room connected to the laundry room that led to the back door of the house. This led out into a patio and that led out to a large deck and a large back yard. This seemed to be at the top of the hill looking down towards the rest of the property. Not far away, there were other buildings that also belonged to the property.

Ayah said, "I feel like I died and went into a fairy princess type of fairy tale. This is a lot to take in"

Her friend nodded in agreement. "Do you want to look at the other buildings?"

"We may as well don't you think?

Let's do it."

And next they walked to the edge of the yard to a fenced area leading to the pool and pool house. There was a kitchen, and entertainment area with a game room off to the side. There were 2 changing rooms and a bathroom.

Next they explored the bunk house that was next to the pool house. There were 3 bedrooms with 3 bunkbed in each room a bathroom, living room and kitchen.

Beside the bunk house, there was a fenced in garden area with a maze of gardens in it. They walked around for around an hour just in the gardens alone. There was also an area that contained a large tool shed. It was a good 3 hours later that they finally felt like they had viewed everything on the property at surface level.

Ayah and her best friend, Nancy Payton decided they would both move into the big house the beginning of the following month which was three weeks away. The following three weeks were filled with work, packing, and making arrangements to get their belongings moved. Ayah had stayed up late and devoted her weekends to all things preparation for the big move. Her new boyfriend, Just would come over and help her pack. He had agreed to help them move into the new house.

When moving day finally arrived, the three of them were already tired, but the excitement of the move motivated them forward. They rented a moving truck. First, they moved Ayah into the big home. The first day they all spent the night at Nancy's house and would move her the next day. Nancy didn't have a love interest. She was too busy enjoying single life. Besides, she stayed fairly busy with her nursing career and her art. Justin had asked if he could move in with them too, but both girls felt like they didn't know him well enough to have him live with them just yet. He was disappointed by understanding about it. Nancy felt Justin was trying to take the relationship too fast, but she trusted her friend's judgement and kept her opinion to herself.

Once they had gathered at Nancy's appartment, Nancy made it clear that Ayah would sleep in her room with her and Justin would sleep on the couch. They said their good nights and headed off to bed.

Ayah said to Nancy, "I'm not sure I'm ready to move on with the relationship. It's just so soon after Abe's death. It feels so strange to kiss another man. Justin wants to take things faster, but i want to take them slow. He will have to just understand that I can't move to fast right now."

I understand. said Nancy simpathetically. I think you should take things at the speed you are comfortable with and anyone who doesn't let you isn't right for you."

You don't think I'm moving too fast do you? Do you think it's too soon after Abe passed away?" she asked.

"What does your heart say? I think you will move on when the time is right for you. I think you know when you are ready."

"I think I'm ready. All the waiting in the world isn't going to bring my Abe back, and it's going to be very hard to find another man like him."

Nancy smiled at her firend, "I agree. Now let's get some sleep."

With that, they were all asleep quickly.

The next morning, they were up bright and early to begin loading the truck. Nancy cooked some biscuits in the oven so they could eat while they worked. By a little afternoon, they had everything packed and ready to move. Everything was at the new house by around 6:30 pm. They all had a quick dinner from McDonald's and decided they would work on unpacking the next day. Justin left and agreed he wouldn't come back for a few days as he had to work but would call Ayah every night to check on her. She thought he was sweet. Nancy felt he was kind of pushy, but again kept her opinion to herself.

They chose rooms right next to each other so they could be close in such a large house. Ayah knew she could stop working for a while if she wanted to take some time off with her new fortune, but she didn't want to. She wanted to keep life as normal as possible for now. However, she did hope getting out of the home she and Abe had shared would be just what she needed to start a new life. It was all so bittersweet though. She missed Abe dearly. It had only been a few months since he had passed and so much had taken place. Life had been a whirlwind of activity, change, and emotions.

Since the house was already somewhat furnished, they slept in the beds that were already there on the first night. The house was mostly quiet except for those settling sounds many old houses make. She lay in her bed, exhausted, but wide awake thinking about everything that had happened since her late husband's passing. She could hear the crickets outside, but something unsettled her. She wasn't sure what it was and she wondered if they would ever figure out who killed her husband. She hadn't heard anymore from the detectives lately. She wondered if she should call to see if they have learned anything new about the case.

The following morning, Ayah decided to call the detectives as she had thought of doing the night before. She had a quick breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast. Then made her phone call. She had to leave a message for the lead detective as the voice mail answered. She hoped to hear something about the case. She laid her phone down and began to work on unpacking dishes for the kitchen while taking inventory of what was already there. It all still felt like a dream. She really owned this mansion. Not in her wildest dreams did she ever think something like this could happen to her, but it did and she was here in the moment. She took a sip of coffee and continued to unpack.

Nancy came downstairs to join her. She had unpacked a little in her bedroom before coming to the kitchen to help there. "Good morning! You aren't wasting any time I see."

"No, It's kind of like Christmas morning but the whole house is a gift to be unwrapped. Look at these silverware I found over here. Do you think they are real silver?"

Take a magnet to them and see if they are pulled to it. That should tell you for sure.

Ayah responded, "Or I could just have them appraised."

You could but the magnet trick is easier and quicker.

I guess you are right. Do you want to unpack those boxes over there?

I can. Let me eat my toast and drink my tea and then I will get to it.

Take your time. It is all ours to go through. When do you have to go back to work?

I go back to work day after tomorrow. What about you?

I went ahead and took the whole week off. I had some vacation time saved up.

I plan to unpack today and hopefully I can take some time to relax tomorrow. I'm whiped out from the move. Aren't you?

I'm tired, but I'm excited too. I might just relax a little tomorrow too. We've been working really hard. Ayah said. About that time her phone rang.

Hello!

Hello, This is Detective Brenten speaking, I was returning your call.

Oh thank you for calling me back. I was just wondering if any progress had been made on the case regarding my husband Abraham. I also need to notify you that I have moved into my new property. You told me I had to let you know of any changes while the investigation was still ongoing.

Yes, that is correct. As far as the case goes. We have ruled out a couple of suspects and have a few more leads to investigate, but haven't solved the case yet. Let me make note of your new address. Oh! It looks like you have already given the address a couple of weeks ago. It's here in your file. So, are you now completely moved into the new address?

Yes, I am. Do you need anything else from me right now? Do I need to answer more questions, anything?"

No, I believe we have everything we need from you right now. Thank you for your cooperation in the case.

Ok thank you so much detective. Good bye.

Good day Miss.

Nancy asked, "What was that about?"

Ayah replied, "That was the detective working my husband's case. I had to report that I had moved and was seeing if they have made any progress on the investigation.

Well, have they?

Not really, and apparently they still haven't ruled me out as a suspect. At least not the way they were talking. What is it going to take to get this thing solved already? It's so frustrating.

I don't have an answer for that, but I'm sure they will solve it in due time.

It's stressful enough to lose a spouse, then to find out he was possibly murdered, and then for the investigation to drag on and for them to suspect you may have committed the crime. I loved him and I'd do anything to bring him back now. We could have had this new life together, but instead I'm left to pick up the pieces." She began to cry. "I'm sorry. The grief. It comes and goes. I never know when it will hit me."

That's ok. There is no time limit to grief. You just have to let it happen and it is the price of love. I know all of this has been hard on you, but I've admired how you have handled it. You know he would want you to be happy and to enjoy the inheritance even without him.

I know. It's just hard." With that, she dried up her tears and focused on unpacking again. By this time Nancy had joined her.

The ladies agreed that they would hold a yard sale after they had gone through everything. This way they could sell everything they didn't need to keep and would be able to put the money back into the property for needed repairs. It was mostly just cosmetic repairs that needed to be made like reroofing, some banaste boards, some shutters and some paint. There needed to be some lawncare too and gardening too. Ayah decided that she would hire a gardener. There was already a maid and a butler. She decided she would keep them for right now. She had invested some of the inheritance money. She had already had a savings of her own and had gotten some life insurance money from her husband's work policy7. So, she wasn't hurting for money at the moment. She knew she would need to be careful with her spending though if she wanted to maintain a lifestyle such as this. She knew not to take it for granted.

By the end of the day, they had unpacked the boxes for the kitchen and got it organized and had done a lot of work in their bedrooms. The following day, they took the day off as they had planned. They decided to walk around the property again, this time taking inventory of what they observed. They knew it would take them several days to go through everything there and determine what they needed to keep and what they needed to get rid of. Ayah figured she could continue working and doing her volunteer work and would just go through stuff on her weekends. She preferred staying busy these days. This way she didn't have time to think about Abe or any other problems. She just kept herself busy and focused.

The next day, Nancy went to work and Ayah stayed home alone. The hired help had been given the week off as well to give Ayah some time to settle in her new home. She decided she would begin working in the living area and just focus on taking inventory today to see what all was there. she would go through closets and drawers and work her way through the house. Some closets were empty and some had clothes and boxes in them where they had been used for storage. Ayah was delighted when she found a jewelry box full of precious jewelry. There was a box of old coins in another closet.

Ayah decided to work in the bunk house the next day. She wanted a break from the main house. The bedrooms were pretty simple and just consisted of furniture and empty closets and empty drawers so whoever was staying there could have their personal belongings with them. The kitchen was fully furnished with a microwave, stove, dishwasher, and fridge. It was stocked with some food as was the shelves in the small pantry. Basic kitchen dishes and utensils were here. This was more like the space she was used to living in, but it was still a bit of an upgrade. Everything here was new and in good repair.

Next she went to the pool house and was more of the same basic utensils and furnature for a more relaxed environment. Then she decided to take a look in the gardening shed. There were several tools stored here, even a riding lawn mower. She decided to have the gardener once hired to take inventory of this shed with her. They would do a walk through on the firtt day to discuss everything that needed to be done. Rather she wanted to keep the property or sell it, it needed some tender love and care to bring it back up to high class standards.

She went back to the main house and found Justin waiting on the front porch for her. He said, Where have you been? I've been trying to reach you on the phone all day."

I've been out on the property working and taking inventory of what is here. Why? You knew I'd eventually show up again here at the main house. I've got a whole big property to play on now. She said teasingly.

I wish you would have taken your phone with you. I've been worried about you.

Why worry about me? I'm a grown woman and can take care of myself.

Did you ever think that whoever murdered your husband might want you dead too?

No, I hadn't, but thanks for giving me something else to keep me up at night. she smirked.

I'm serious. You really should be more careful.

Ok, I'll make sure I have my phone on me all the time from now on if that makes you feel better.

Yes, it would make me feel better. I'm starting to really care for you and I don't want any thing to happen to you.

That's sweet, but nothing has happened to me yet. I didn't know you were coming over tonight. I thought you were coming by tomorrow.

When I didn't get an answer on the phone, I wanted to come check on you in person. I'm glad you are ok. He said as he gave her a hug.

Nancy should be home in a few minutes. come into the kitchen and I'll start making us some dinner.

Looks like you got a lot of stuff done this week. What do you need me for?

Ayah laughed, "Oh I have a few things in mind for you to work on this weekend."

Really? Don't you ever take a break from work?

Yes, that's why we are going to get the pool set up for swimming in tomorrow. Then Sunday, we will all go swimming.

So, you do know how to have some fun. Thats a relief to know.

Nancy walked in, "Whew! am I glad I don't have to work this weekend. Hi, you two! I hope you've had a better week than I have had.

Ayah said, "I'm sorry you had such a rough week at work. I'm making some dinner. Come join the crowd."

I'm going to change out of these scrubs and into something comfortable and kick off these shoes. Then I'll be right back.

Ayah replied, "Maybe it'll be ready by the time you get back. I'm making soup and sandwhiches.

Nancy yelled back, "Sounds good!" as she was already halfway up the stairs.

Ayah was right, by the time she got back to the kitchen, dinner was hot and ready. "I'm so glad I don't have to cook for myself today. You have no idea what I have been through. Thanks for fixing enough for me too. Nancy said.

You know you are welcome. We live under the same roof. We may as well be sisters now.

Ooh! Sisters. I hadn't thought of that. It's like we have always dreamed of since the third grade. This should be fun.

Yeah, we are house sisters. They both giggled.

Justin said, I hate to interrupt but do either of you object to going to see a movie with me tonight?

Nancy asked, "What's playing?"

Justin went through the name of movies listed and they all decided on one they all three wanted to see.

After they cleaned up after themselves from dinner and got ready to go, they headed to the movie theater. The rest of the night was spent relaxing on the couch at home until late in the evening. Finally, Ayah, spoke up. "You should go home and get some rest and come back in the morning around noon so we can work on that pool, Justin."

When you two going to let me spend the night? We are going steady aren't we?

We might be going steady but I told you I'm taking it slow. I'll let you know when I am ready for that. I am not ready yet.

Okay, I get the hint. He leaned in for a quick kiss good night, and left.

With that Nancy said, "I'm beat. I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning.

Ayah, said good night. See ya.tomorrow sis. They both smiled. I think I'll stay up and read for a little while.

Nancy went up to her room and left Ayah alone in the sitting room where they had all been visiting. Ayah sighed and sat quietly, thankful everything was going quiet for the night. She was ready to just relax. She stretched out on the couch with a book in hand and began to read.

Ayah must have dozed off to sleep while she was reading because one moment she was in her romance novel where the prince was slaying the dragon to save the princess and the next she was in another scene altogether. She was driving her car to try to find her husband and he was screaming for her help. She was searching frantically for him and could hear him calling her but wasn’t able to find him. Then she heard a car crash and startled awake.

She was soaked in sweat and trembling. Her book fell to the floor. She thought to herself, “I must be pushing myself too hard.” She got up turned out the lights and went to bed. She had been having reoccurring nightmares since her husband’s passing, but just assumed it was from stress.

The following morning, her, Nancy, and Raven were working on getting the pool ready for swimming. It had to be drained and cleaned. Then they had to put the chemicals in it. Once they finished working on the pool they went inside the pool house to relax a little. Ayah and Nancy went to the sofa and Raven went to the kitchen to poor them drinks. “What do you two want to drink. I’m thinking I’ll have a cold beer.”

“Oh, honey, just give me the biggest glass of iced tea you can find.

“I’ll take a small glass of wine. Perhaps it will help me relax tonight.”

Ok, tea and wine on its way. Raven said.

It was only a couple of minutes when he emerged with their drinks. “What are your plans for the evening, ladies?”

Ayah said, “I’m planning on just being lazy the rest of the day. I’m tired. I didn’t sleep good last night.”

Nancy said, “why didn’t you sleep good?”

Oh I have been having some nightmares. Probably just stress. I have been pushing pretty hard this last few weeks.

That’s true. You have been at that. I think taking the evening off is a good idea. I thought I might just take a walk around the property. The weather is beautiful today. What are you planning Raven?”

I didn’t have any plans. I was kind of hoping to spend time alone with Ayah.

Honestly Raven I rather take a rain check on that. I really do want to just relax tonight.”

Well, what about tomorrow night? Are we still planning to swim too?

Ayah answered, "I'm planning to swim, yes. That's why we worked on the pool today. I'm just not ready to be alone with you yet. I'm still getting to know you.'

Raven asked, "That's why I want to spend some time with you, so I can get to know you better and you can get to know me better."

Well, You can spend time with me for now with my friend present. She can do her own thing while we do ours.

Nancy piped in, "I'm just a fly on the wall. Don't pay any attention to me."

Raven laughed, "Ok fair enough. What time do you want me to come back tomorrow? I can take a hint and know when to leave."

Ayah said, "please don't take it personally. I told you in the beginning that I don't want to move too fast. It hasn't been that long since Abraham passed away. It's hard to think of replacing him. He was a good man. Please, I hope you understand."

"I understand, but I can hope. I just really like you and want to spend more time with you."

"I know. We'll have a lot of fun tomorrow. We've all been kind of stressed out with the move and everything. Tomorrow we will relax."

Alright, I'll head on home now. Can I at least get a kiss?"

I suppose you can give me one on the cheek. She said as she held her cheek up to him.

He gladly accepted the invitation, and made his way to the exit.

Nancy watched her friend interact with Raven and after he left, she said, "There is something about him that bothers me, but not quite sure what it is. He is just off some how. I don't feel good vibes, but he is your boyfriend, what do I know?"

"Thank you for worrying about me, but I plan to take it slow. I won't move to fast and get to know him before anything too serious happens"

Ok, I guess I'm going to take my walk. She smiled and got up to go out the door.

Ayah said, You think he is bad for me?"

"I hope not, but we will see. Time will tell. I really want you to be happy." Then she turned and left.

Ayah took the last sip of her wine as she sat on the couch and reflected the day's conversations and events. She took a deep breath and decided to just relax right there on the sofa. She might as well enjoy every part of her property. She sat daydreaming about all the things she could do with it.

Suddenly, she found herself standing in the garden, a dark shadow was approaching her from behind. She felt chills down her spine. The hair on her arms stood up with alert. Just as the shadow was about to envelope her, she woke up with a start! She thought to herself, what a strange dream! I should really get some rest tonight.

Ayah got up off the couch and walked back to the main house from the pool house where she was. It was just before sunset. The sky was beautiful with orange and red hews. The property was like a huge sanctuary. She was so thankful for it. She really wasn't sure she was ready for a new relationship with Raven. She felt distant somehow, disconnected. She went straight to bed.

The following morning after she got up and went to the kitchen, she found Nancy sitting at the dining table with coffee reading a magazine. Nancy looked up. Did you sleep good?

Yes, thank you for asking. I needed that nice long sleep. Now I just feel lathargic. I think I'll feel better as the day goes on. How about you?

Oh yes, I slept very well. There is some more coffee in the pot.

I think I'll get some tea, thank you

Raven is supposed to be here in a couple of hours. You go back to work tomorrow like I do don't you.

Yes, I go back to work tomorrow.

So do I and I am so ready to get back to some normal, whatever that is at this point.

You will find your new normal I am sure. Take your time. Enjoy the inheritance. Don't let Raven move too fast. Take it at your pace.

You know I will. I'm ready to lighten up and have some fun today. Please, don't go to far.

I won't leave you alone with him. While you and him are swimming, I'll sun bathe. I could use the tan.

Ok thank you for being such a good friend.

—————————

After about an hour or so, they all put on more sunscreen and and Nancy said she would like to sun blather at the side of the pool. Raven asked Ayah if she wanted to go inside and get a drink. She accepted the offer.

After they got their drinks they sat down on their beach towels and started to talk. Ayah said “This is really fun!”

I’m glad you are enjoying yourself finally. You’ve been really tense lately.

I know. The move and everything has been stressful. I’m kind of glad it’s over although there is still a lot of work to be done around here. I can at least slow down a little bit.

I hear that. It’s nice to be able to talk and have things lighten up with you.

I'm sorry. I have just had a lot going on. It hasn't been that long since I lost my husband and it feels so wierd to be already dating again. I have had a lot of mixed emotions about it, but I know I don't want to spend the rest of my life alone. I haven't heard much of your story. Tell me about your life. Who are you?" She asked with a teasing smile.

Raven smiled back and began to tell her about his life. ..."so, up to this point, I have mostly just tried to make it as a business man. I haven't done horrible but I know I can do better. I have a lot of big dreams.. Did anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are?"

Oh? Now you are going to flirt are you?"

Yes, why not? You aren't uncomfortable with that are you?

Ayah didn't know if she had accidentally allowed herself too much wine, if it was exhaustion, or what, but she began to let her guard down. "No. No, not at all." she said.

He saw his opportunity and leaned in for a kiss on the lips. After he kissed her, He said, "You are beautiful especially when the sun is shining just like this. It's like your skin glistens.

About that time, Nancy walked in, "I hope I am not interrupting anything but I need to get a drink and put on some more sun screen.

They both jumped because they had forgotten she was even there. Ayah blushed. "No, you aren't interrupting anything. Are either of you 2 going to want to swim any more? I am afraid I am starting to get a little sunburned."

They all agreed to go back to the main house to relax the rest of the afternoon. They put on a movie when they got back and Nancy made them all some pop corn. Raven and Ayah relaxed on the couch and kind of cuddled up together. When the movie was done. Nancy decided to give them some space while still watching from a distance. She said, You 2 seem to be finally starting to get cozy. I'll give you a little space, but don't worry because I am not going far. There are some dishes in the kitchen that need washing. I think I might just wash them and make us a little dinner before Raven leaves tonight unless anyone has any objections."

Ayah looked up at her and gratefully said, "No objections here. I really didn't want to do dishes today anyway."

Raven echoed, "None here. That's for sure."

With that they were alone in the living room. Raven put on some music and aksed, "Would you dance with me, Ayah?"

Ayah said, "I'd love to Raven."

Ayah had her head on Raven's shoulder, "She said, this feels nice. I haven't done this in a while.

"I'm glad you are enjoying it. You know I think I am starting to really care about you."

We haven't known each other that long. Are you sure?

I've never been more sure about anything in all my life. You think you could see me as your next husband?

Now, you are moving too fast again Raven. I'm still working on getting comfortable with you as a boyfriend.

Okay, I'm sorry. I am not meaning to take it to fast. I don't mean it like that. I mean there is just something about you that make me feel good inside when I am around you.

I feel good when I am around you too.

It seemed like they danced for hours when it was only around 45 minutes. Nancy called from the kitchen, "Dinner's ready you two love birds! Tweet Tweet!

Ayah and Raven laughed. They headed to the kitchen hand in hand. "Thank you so much Nancy. This is really sweet of you."

Nancy said, "Don't thank me too soon. I just want to get dinner over with so I can go to bed early tonight." Then she laughed.

They all laughed. They talked and enjoyed each other's company. Then it was time for Raven to go home. "Shall wee do this again next weekend?

Nancy looked at Ayah who said, "Yes, we'd love too. It's been fun. Thank you."

It was a slow song and they held each other close swaying to the rythem of the music. Ayah had her head on Raven's shoulder.

A couple of months went by of Raven coming over for the weekend. They would spend time together and work their way through the week again. This next weekend, they had planned to finally be alone in a public place together. Ayah kept going over in her mind all the things they had done and all the fun they had been having together. It still felt strange to her to have this kind of fun with another man, but she was starting to get used to it. She actually looked forward to it. she was still deep in her thoughts when her new gardener who she had just hired this week came to her in a panic. "Ayah! Call the detectives now! I just found .... I just found....(he gagged) a dead body in the large tool shed!" He looked pale.

"Oh my! Are you ok?"

"Yes! Just call the detectives! I think they have been murdered."

Yes! Of course! Strait away!" She got her phone and called.

It wasn't long until sirens could be heard in the distance. She had not seen the body, nor did she want to. She let her gardener lead the way.

When the detectives had gotten there, he showed them the body. She only stayed near by in case she was needed. While all of the comotion was still going on, Nancy arrived home. "What in the world, Ayah?"

Nancy! I'm so glad you are home. The gardener found a dead body in the tool shed. The detectives are investigating!

About that time a large burly detective came over to them. Who of you lives on the property?

They told him that they did and he informed them there were some questions they needed to answer and to cancel any plans they had for the evening due to the investigation. They cooperated fully and did as they were told.

It was several hours later before they even knew who had been found deceased. The name was Brian Craig. That name didn't sound familiar to either of them. The detective asked, do you know who he was related to the previous owner of the property?"

Ayah answered, "No, I don't even know who the man is."

"That's interesting because he is the next of kin that would have been set to inherit this property instead of you."

Ayah turned a bit pale and had a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. "I had no idea sir."

Nancy hugged her friend as she knew she had been deeply desturbed by all of this. It had been unsettling for her too.

The detective said, "As I understand it, your husband's murder is still being investigated?"

Ayah could hardly answer the question, she had a strange feeling the murders were related. Was her life in danger too? Why was all of this happening around her? "Yes, sir. I have not heard any updated information on his case either."

I hope you don't plan on leaving town anytime soon. You will need to stay until both investigations are completed." the detective said.

"You don't think I could have done any of this do you?" Ayah was practically in tears.

Madam, unfortunately. we still need to rule you out as a suspect. It is only protocol, nothing personal.

"Of course!" concerned etched accross both her and Nancy's face.

If you don't mind, we will need both of you to come with us to head quarters for questioning. At this, they were both led away into seperate cars to be questioned separately.

After what seemed like hours of questions, both women returned home at 2 am exhausted. They both went to bed because they were just too tired to process any more.

The next day, Raven showed up as usual. He said, "you two look like the cat just drug you in. Are you ok?"

Nancy replied, "Yes, it was just a long night. A dead body was found on the property and we were both kept up late last night for questioning. Forgive us if we don't feel like doing much today."

Ayah, I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you alright my darling?"

I'll be fine. It's nothing a little make up won't fix. I'll go get ready for our date.

The had gone out for lunch and decided to go out for a walk. Ayah felt distant, she was in shock and total disbelief. She was in a stage of denial. "All of this just can't be happening. It makes no sense! I didn't ask for any of this!" She blurted out in frustration.

"I'm so sorry you are having to go through of all this, honey, but you know I am here for you."

I know and I appreciate it. It's just so frustrating! It feels like I allowed myself to let my gard down for just a moment and something crazy happens. Murders don't just happen and why am I surrounded by them all of a sudden?"

You are a killer are you, sweetheart? Raven asked innocently.

NO! I'm not a killer! Ayah almost screamed. She wanted to hit him for even implying such a thing.

Whoah! I'm just asking. You are the one who said the detectives said you were a suspect. I am just coving my butt. I don't want to be the next murder victim.

"Oh, please! You know how humilliating and infuriating this is all at the same time."

I can only imagine, my dear."

I'm sorry. This is all just so stressful and I didn't ask for any of it."

Raven stopped her, took her hands in his own, and said, "Look! I'm in this with you. You don't have to go through it alone. Let me comfort you." Then he hugged her.

She couldn't help it. The tears began to fall and turn into full blown sobs. He just held her and let her cry.

After a few moments, she said, " I'm sorry. Thank you for that. Can you please walk me back home now? It's been a long night and day."

He took her by the hand and let her lean on his shoulder as they made their way back to the main house. This time they kissed slow and passionately on the lips before he said good bye.

She just sat on the porch for a little while afterwards until she found herself gazing at the stars. Nancy came out and said, "Are you going to come inside, Ayah?"

"I guess I had better, hadn't I?"

They both came in and went to bed. They were both ready to put the last couple of days behind them.

By now, word had gotten out around town of the body that was found on the property and her husband's suspicious death. Ayah, had gone to church that Sunday, but had felt like all eyes were on her and judging her. She wanted to cry, but held back the tears until she got home. She decided to take a trip to the library to research the man who had been found dead on her property. She wanted to know why and how he ended up in her tool shed. Was she in danger too? Was she being set up or framed? What was going on? She had way more questions than answers. Her nerves were on edge and she would feel better trying to find the answers instead of being a sitting duck. She spent the afternoon going over old news paper articles, files, and records. Then she found a story with a woman who had died similarly to her husband in the exact same way that he had died. It struck her as coincidental. However, we all know, we can't trust coincidences in murder cases. She printed a copy of it and decided she would look into it more as she had time.

Raven tapped her on the shoulder, she jumped as he had startled her. "What are you doing my darling?"

"Oh! My goodness! You startled me. I was just looking at some old news paper articles and trying to clear my head. Is it 6 pm already?

"Try, 7 pm. Nancy said I would find you here."

Oh no! I must have lost track of time."

That's okay there is still time to have some tea at the cafe if we hurry"

That sounds nice! Let me gather my papers.

They made their way down to the cafe a couple of streets over and ordered their tea. Raven said, "You seem destracted today. Are you okay?"

It's just stress. I'm sure. I felt like everyone's eyes were on me at church this morning. I felt like a naughty school girl when I have done nothing wrong. I wish all of this would just go away.

"I am sure no one is accusing you of murder my darling. There just isn't many murders that happen in this area. I'm sure it will all be forgotten soon."

That's easy for you to say. You aren't the one who is a suspect.

The detectives questioned me this morning dear. I'm not completely out of the woods myself if that makes you feel better. I have been around the house with you. Everyone there is a suspect, even your new maid."

How did you know about my new maid?

Oh word gets around. Nancy told me. Everyone is on edge. I'm sure they will solve the murder soon and everything will turn out fine.

You really think so?

Of course I do. Would I lie to you?

She laughed, "I don't know. Would you?"

He laughed too, "I certainly would not."

She said, "You know what? I think I believe you.

The next few weeks were tense with stress. The investigation had halted some of the work to be done on the new property. Although, they continued to work around the area that was off limits. Ayah continued to research to see if she could help the investigation along using her skills and access as a journalist. She just couldn't place the connection between the victim in the news paper article, her husband, and the man found in the tool shed. She felt it in her gut that they all had something in common, but what? She kept feeling also that she was in danger too. She thought maybe it was just her nerves playing tricks on her, but she just couldn't shake the feeling. She was restless and didn't know what to do but just keep digging for answers and information. Nancy tried to help her when she could, but she didn't have the skills or resources Ayah did.

One evening, the detective paid her another visit at home. He said, "Word has it that you have been doing some investigating of your own? You aren't keeping any information from us are you?"

No, in fact, I'll gladly show you what I have uncovered. Maybe it would help to put our infromation together?"

I have to inform you that we do not need your help in this murder investigation. You are not Angela Fletcher on Murder she Wrote.

I'm not pretending to be, but I want this case solved just as much as you do. I'm not researching because I feel you are incapable of doing your job. I am doing it for my own peace of mind and trying not to go crazy while my life seems to be falling apart.

I wouldn't say you are hurting too much. You have inherrited this nice property along with a monitary sum. Some people would kill for much less.

I am not some people sir. I am simply me and I am no killer.

Well, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the investigating up to us professionals. Stay out of it. You don't want to get hurt.

Detective, is that a threat? I think I can hardly stay out of if when you have told me I am a suspect and all of this is happening on my property and to me and my family.

Think what you will, miss. Let us solve this case!

Ayah was angry at this. She imediately went to the library and started doing more research. She thought, "Why can't I research a murder mystery when it's in my own back yard, literally?"

After being at the library a couple of hours, she went back to the pool house and figured she would go there to do some thinking by herself. She got out a pen and notebook and started writing notes to herself. She began to put together an investigation board to piece together the information she had. She wrote out everything that had transpired, her thoughts and feelings about it and her suspicions. She was still there when Nancy came to look for her. "Ayah, what are you doing?"

I'm angry and I'm doing something about it." She fumed.

"It looks like you are doing detective work?"

That's because I am, kind of. The detective came by today and told me to stay out of the investigation. He wants to accuse me of interfering with his precious investigation, I''ll show him interference. This could all completely ruin my life and in some ways already has. I'm not going to just sit back and twiddle my thumbs! I put together this investigation board and I wrote out all my thoughts on the subject and I am feeling much better now that I can put it all in perspective."

"Wow! This has all really gotten you fired up! I don't think I have ever seen you like this before." She began examining the board. "Looks like quite a set up you have here! Do you want any help."

Nancy, I don't even know what I want any more. I want this case to be solved and this nightmare to be over. Here! You may as well read the notes too." She handed her the notebook and they both sat down on the couch while Nancy read.

After several minutes of reading, she finally spoke, "Ayah, I don't know how to help you on this one. I understand how you can feel the way you do. I can't make the detective let you help investigate, but you'd better proceed with caution. This is a messy situation and it can get even messier if you aren't careful. Are you going to be okay with all of this? Maybe you should take some time off work or something. It's not like you don't have the finances for it. You have always pushed yourself too hard."

Ayah looked at Nancy with tears in her eyes, "I don't know, Nancy. I don't know."

Nancy hugged her up and held her there for a few minutes while she cried.

After a few moments, Nancy said, "Maybe you could hire a private investigator to help you?"

The detectives working on the case are still not going to like anyone else looking into it. I'm a journalist. I do this sort of stuff to get stories to print in the newspaper. What is wrong with me doing my own research in the investigation? Are they afraid I'll solve the case before they will and claim all the glory for solving it? This is rediculous!"

"I don't know why they have a problem with you doing your own research. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. I think its a great idea. I also think you are doing a fabulous job. You are amazing. I don't think I could have connected the dots like you have done in your work right here that I am looking at."

Thanks, I needed to hear that. I just don't know what else to do with myself. I can't work on improving certain areas of the property now because it is still under investigation. I've been informed that I have not been ruled out as a suspect. My husband is gone. Another murder has happened on the property. This is just one really big jumbled up mess! And it happens to be my life we are talking about here!" Ayah said.

Nancy replied, "I know it is one big jumbled up mess. All I can say is just do you. You do whatever you feel you need to do to get through this and I'll support you 100%.

Thank you. Right now, I think I need to try to get some rest if that is even possible. I've got a lot of things to sort out." With that she got up and started towards the door.

Hey! Wait for me. Nancy said as she got up and followed her.

The next couple of weeks were spent working and doing her own personal research when she was able. Nancy had done some of her own research regarding Raven and she still couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong somewhere. He just gave her creepy vibes, but what could she do? One day while she was having lunch at a local coffee shop, Raven appeared there too. He asked to sit beside her and then struck up a conversation.
