Later Never Comes
"Later Never Comes"
by Jessie Buckley and Luke Evans
from Scrooge: A Christmas Carol
On the Second Day of Christmas, I chose a song that has absolutely no reason to go as hard as it does. Back in 2022, Netflix released an animated adaptation of Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol, which at first seemed to just be filler content for the holidays (as Netflix is wont to do), but they ended up with a phenomenal cast (Luke Evans, Jessie Buckley, Olivia Colman, Jonathan Pryce, et al) and really invested a lot in the music. It ended up being a great choice because this song is one that I find myself listening to even when it's not the holidays.
It's not a Christmas song per se (but in a Christmas movie, so I'm counting it!); it's a song about loss and grief and missed connections. The movie itself is pretty good too, but this song is a real standout.
