#2 - Earliest Soundtrack What's the earliest Soundtrack of my life I can remember? My memories goes to the musical soundtracks. Growing up as a young kid in the 1970's I remember music on the radio. Nothing really memorable. There was "Tie a Yellow Ribbon," (song) The Carpenters (Music Group). My mother listened to mellower stuff, my father more of the rocker stuff. As a young girl I had a cheap vinyl record player and my mom had gotten me Musical Soundtracks for it. There were some Disney ones, but I didn't like listening to the Disney ones. The two favorite soundtracks I can remember playing on that "cheapie" vinyl player was: KISS ME KATE MY FAIR LADY there might have been a 3rd, but I don't remember what it was. At this time, it doesn't seem to resonate like the others. I can remember playing the records, studying the albums covers, and learning the music and spending hours doing it. I had no idea at the time they were musicals. To this day, these two musicals are in my Top 5 of Musicals and if they're playing at the Pantages, I'll buy tickets to go see them. In fact, I did see "My Fair Lady" playing at the Kodak Theatre back in 2021. There's nothing like live Theatre to invigorate the creativity. What did I take away from this early period? I suppose a love of musicals, though at the time, I would have never realized it. The songs were catchy, different, interesting, and held my attention. Nowadays, I appreciate a good musical. It just took me time to realize it. IT'S TOO DARN HOT from Kiss Me Kate |
