My journey through life picking up the best lessons I could and continuing to do so. |
| had me in thrall. Innocent and beautiful central character Christabel as pitched against Geraldine, the mysterious spirit was quite moving with its theme of good versus evil. As far as Economics classes were concerned, it was another story. Though it was a tough subject to understand and remember the principles, my mind accepted it. I tried my best in getting help as well. My father’s younger brother, my uncle, used visit us on Sundays, when I used to beg him to explain a certain chapter or chapters in Adam Smith’s “Wealth of Nations” or Keynesian theories of Micro and Macro Economics. He did help to some extent. But I soon realized that Economics is a thinking subject. One has to think and learn the reasons behind theories expounded by economists all over the world. It was quite exciting to understand the demand supply equations as well as marginal demand and supply theories and practices as well. During our second year of B.A, we had a visiting American professor of economics named, Professor Gilpatrick. He was humorous as well as concerned about our learning too. The remarkable thing about him was that he started learning Telugu, our language because he said he loved it. Boy! Weren’t we impressed! My third optional subject was Political Science, very fascinating indeed. Once again, I am grateful to our lecturers in Political Science, Mrs. Philips and another lady lecturer. While one taught us about the various political theories formulated from Plato, Aristotle, and Machiavelli, along with social contract theorists Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau. Machiavelli stands out because he stated that leaders must be pragmatic, cunning and even cruel. The term |
