not the book of your death, actually. It's a ghost story. |
âSo, Julie, er-⌠I donât know how to say itâŚâ âWell, Brian, maybe on a lower voiceâ she answered. It was Saturday morning, and they were at a table in the library, doing their homework, with several books in front of them. âRightâ he said. âWell, did you know that you are related to, you know, the Deaths?â âNo, I didnât. I never had anyone. Only themâ she said. âMy parentsâ, she added, seeing Brianâs confused face. âNot even here, in Sunsetville. You are the first friend I ever had here.â she said and smiled to him. âEveryone considers me a freak over hereâŚâ âWell, you are a freak,â Brian said, âif the first place you go with your first friend is the library.â Julie giggled. âWell, this is like the only place where Eileen lets me go, beside school.â âWhy do you call her on her name?â asked Brian curious. âI mean, why donât you call her âMomâ?.... I call Ryan âDadâ and heâs not my real father.â Julie looked both wounded and maybe shocked. âI canât betray my parents!â she said. âIf you can, well, I am happy for you.â âHey, I didnât want to upset you!â Brian said. âAnd⌠I never had a Dad. That bastard left Mom while she was still-â Brianâs mobile rang then. âOh, sorry.â He looked at the angry faces around him. âSorryâŚâ He looked at the phone. âItâs Mom⌠I wonder what-â âJust go outside and answerâ said Julie, with a begging look. âOh-I guess youâre right⌠Excuse-â âStop talking and get the hell out, Pickle!â said that old lady (cried actually) from her chair, lady which Brian met days before. âItâs PRICKET!â âOUT!â He ran out. âHello?â âHello, sweetie.â Answered a crying voice. âMom! Whatâs wrong?â âWe are at the hospital-â âWhat? What happened?â âItâs Ryan. He⌠He had an⌠an accident. Itâs quite serious.â Brian was stunned. âHow⌠how serious?â he asked, without thinking. âPretty badâŚâ âIâm coming over there!â âOk, honey, take careâŚâ He closed, and ran into the library. âJulie! â he said, forgetting to keep his voice down. âWe have to go to the hospital. Itâs Dad!â âWeâll go with Eileenâs car!â âShh!â completed the old lady. After about fifteen minutes, Brian, Julie and Eileen were at the Sunsetville Hospital, talking with Caitlin. The hospital had three floor, and it was all painted in white. It was nice, warm and clean. âHow it happened, Mom?â asked Brian, rather terrified. âHe couldâve die.â answered Caitlin, who was fighting with her tears. âIt was a little strange, actually.â âWhat do you mean, strange, dear?â asked Eileen, confused, just like everybody else. âNot just strange.â Caitlin said âI just canât explain how it happened. He was taking a shower. I just suddenly heard him scream âWhoâs there? Itâs that you, Cait?â and then he called me desperate. I went to the bathroom as fast as I could, and then⌠he was there, on the floor, full of blood. He didnât seem to be conscious. The mirror was broken, and there were pieces of it everywhere, mostly on Ryanâs body⌠on his face⌠there was blood everywhere⌠I called the ambulance, and they asked me to tell them⌠how it happened⌠but I couldnât explain them, because I didnât know how!â she was crying again. âOh, Caitlinâ said Eileen, with her hand on Caitlinâs shoulder âHeâll be all rightâ A door had been opened, and a doctor came. He was a black man. âHello, Mrs. Pricket, Iâm Dr. Vain.â âHowâs Ryan?â she asked, scared, ignoring his introducing. âWell, he suffered some serious injuries. Mostly on his head, and face. Now, I donât want to scare you, madam, but your husband was either attacked, or wanted to commit suicide.â âSuicide?â repeated Caitlin, amazed. âRyan? Suicide? Dr. Vain, but he⌠I donât think you know what youâre saying! Ryan would never-â âI just told you what weâve found out after the investigation.â Interrupted Dr/ Vain. âHeâll be all right, if you donât count the scars. Now, if you excuse me,I got stuff to do! Good day!â âThank you, Dr. Vain.â Said Brian, and then turned to his mother. âMom,â he said, âI have to go home. Iâll be back, I promise!â âT-take care, honey!â she said and kissed him on his cheek. âJulie, could you-â âOf course,â she said. âI wonât ask Eileen this timeâ And they left. âJulie, where in the world do you think youâre going?â asked, Eileen, upset and deranged that Julie made a move without her approbation. âLeave them , Eileen.â Caitlin said. âTheyâre just going to our place.â âMaybe youâre right, Caitlin.â Said Eileen, still deranged. âCoffee?â âIâd like some, thank youâ said Caitlin, thinking if she really did the good thing letting Brian and Julie go to their house⌠|
