A blog of no uncertain musings. What goes on in my mind is often a source of wonder to me.

How's YOUR Arm?
Okay.  By now you've all seen the video of the Iraqi journalist who lobbed his shoes at Preisdent Bush.  Or, at least you heard about it.  Well, if you haven't seen the raw footage, check it out here.

The news article by the Associated Press stated that Muntadhar al-Zeidi was initially taken into custody by Iraqi security and interrogated about whether anybody had paid him to throw his shoes at Bush during a news conference Sunday in Baghdad.  Come on, guys--not everything is a conspiracy.  I think it's quite obvious the guy just acted on his own.  Did you watch the way he threw his shoes?

Several things come to mind.  First, this was no well calculated throw by a suicide bomber.  You don't throw a grenade like a baseball, for godsakes.  This was a spur of the moment idea, an opportunity that presented itself and just couldn't be passed up.  Shit, he had the element of surprise, was only 15 feet away, and he still missed ... twice.

Second.  Good reaction guys.  Hey, Secret Service--I'm talking to you.  al-Zeidi got two shoes down range before anyone even moved.  What the hell's up with this.  Not one agent threw himself in front of the President to "take a shoe."

Do you suppose the security forces, theirs and ours, thought al-Zeidi was a member of the little known (insert favorite popular shoe chain) faction of the Al Quaeda.  Or perhaps, they ran out of bomb material.  Maxwell Smart just used his shoes as a telephone.  Who would have thought how versatile one's shoe could be.

I guess al-Zeidi is lucky the press conference was in Baghdad, or else he might be in Guantanamo with all the other Islamic detainees.  Mnnn, a tropical setting with lots of barbed wire and big hairy guys in showers--what a deal.

I'm not particularly a George Bush fan, but I was quite impressed by the way he dodged both shoes.  Obviously eight years in the White House has taught him how to 'duck' well.  Don't misunderstand me--I'm glad the President wasn't hurt in this insident.  But I think this type of attack on America can't continue.

We need to teach him a lesson.  I hope they throw the book ... er, ah shoe at this guy.

The original Sig.
