Author's Note: This was inspired by a poetry collection I read.

Myths of the NOBEL SAVAGE
and the RED DEVIL
combine to create stereotypical ghost
that Voices From Wah 'Kon-Tah
dispel.

To experience the soul of a culture
one must
consume its heart
in small honey coated bites
wrapped in bitter herbs.

Wah 'Kon-Dah -
The Great Mystery -
the life force flowing
through every atom of the planet,
sends visions
to guide and instruct;
visions
that the pen intones
upon the pages of existence.

Cultural images
alien
to one of mixed blood
beckon
to the part that is Native American:
as the sweat lodge beckons
to the impure soul
promising salvation.
