Pretending The Pain Isn't There Swept into the currents of pain, Mind focuses on the blow That destroyed the foundations of trust. The wounded ego withdraws, Into a shell of fear and pride, Where it can pretend That the pain is no longer there. This wall built of unforgiveness Grows higher everyday That ego plays this game of pretending That the pain isn't there. The ego underestimates The power of forgiveness to heal, So each day the wall grows thicker And higher. Eventually, The pain can no longer be contains, The comet of reality strikes, And the soul is freed To take control; To forgive. Poet's Note: ▶︎ |
