Weariness set in,
in the midnight hours
dreams come and go:
Mama,
Grandma,
Grandpa,
'Abdu'l-Baha,
or Baha'u'llah.

Why doesn't my father
appear in my dreams?

Is it because
Daddy's influence
wasn't as significant
as I thought?

Or is it because
the scars
of his leaving
have healed over
and left tear-stained rainbows
on my soul.

There are other men
who no longer appear in my dreams:
Have I forgiven them
for hurting me,
or myself
for hanging
onto the hurt?

In my senior years
the only people appearing in my dreams
are those
who encourage me.
