Driving Blind

The fog
in Cajon Pass
concealed both yesterday
and tomorrow,
as we ascended the summit.

The headlights
of my silver Toyota Corolla
revealed
only
the ghost-like lane markers.

Unable to see any danger--
either ahead
or behind--
we continued
up the mountain
whispering prayers of protection
and salvation.
