Whales
These leviathans of the deep
once had legs
and walked on land,
now their songs echo
through the oceans of the world.
Humanity
hunted them--
almost to extinction--
for their blubber
to render it into oil
to use in the production1
of soap,
leather,
cosmetics,
and candles.
Today
humanity pollutes their homes
with plastic
and other waste products.
Listen to the whales' songs
pleading with humanity
to let them live in peace
and harmony
in the oceans of Earth.
