Why is it so difficult to come up with interview questions for a band when a friend of mine is in the band? Seriously, we're interviewing a band from Italy and I came up with 8 questions really fast. Then I'm trying to think of questions for a band in which I know the drummer, and I have to try hard to come up with 7 questions.

I won't tell you who our featured band is next month, but I will tell you it's a goth band.

If you are a reviewer, please please check out this contest:

This are my funny synopses/comments for the movies playing near me. I emailed this to my sister as we were deciding which film to see today. If you can guess which movie we decided to see, I'll give you some gps! *Smile*

(My comments are in parentheses)

(You may have been noticing that I don't talk about my job here much. That's because I don't technically have one... I'm editor of my online 'zine, but I don't get paid for it... yet.) So instead, I present you with this:

Pirates of the Caribbean (over 3 hours long?!)

Shrek the Third (I'm not sure if Shaun would be sad if I saw this one...)

Surf's Up (kind of looks like a rip-off of Happy Feet to me...)

Ocean's Thirteen (hot guys, anway!)

Knocked Up (everyone's been telling me this one is hilarious, but I'm not sure...)

Waitress (only playing at the Bloomsburg theater. might be okay)

Hostel II (I'd love to see it, but I don't think you do, and besides, I never saw the first one)

Mr. Brooks (all I saw was Kevin Costner, and I thought, "No!")

So, what do you think? *Laugh*

It's been a weird, but really good day. First, I got a great comment from the singer of a band we saw over the weekend. It feels awesome when someone recognizes the work you do. *Blush*

I decided to have a Reviewing day today once I noticed that the Daily Review Rewards are 5 times the normal amount right now. I had made this decision in the past, but I rarely get to do all of the reviews I'd like. Today I did. *Smile*

I reviewed 25 items, and it only took me about 7 hours. *Laugh*

Because I'm a stats geek or something, I figured out that my average rating today was 4.34 and that my average characters per review was 1401. I also tried to calculate about how many gps I made (will make) today. Including auto-rewards, credits, the Review Mixer, and the Daily Rewards I'll get later, I'll have 12,333 gps more from today's work. *Bigsmile*

Let me tell you, if you're looking for items to review, check out the entries for "The Writer's Cramp [13+]! I found a lot of great items there!

One of them was this one, my personal favorite for the day:

We may be interviewing an Italian electronic pop band very soon! I like them, and I know pretty much nothing about the Italian music scene, so it should be a pretty fun interview!

Babylonia - https://www.myspace.com/babylonia

For almost a year now, we've been trying to move our online 'zine into print, and it's been such a struggle! From trying to find advertisers and contacting bands to coming up with enough material and dealing with printers, it's been quite an ordeal.

We've made a decision to possibly forego a printer and print the darn thing ourselves. The printer I've been in contact with wants over $1,000 for a 24 page issue (for 500 copies). I'm not sure we can come up with that amount in advertising, and I'm not sure we need that many copies.

The tricky thing about magazines is that it takes a few months (sometimes years) before you start seeing any profit, and we have no money to back this up. It must be self-sustaining or we can't do it.

I'm tired of thinking, "There's only two of us! How can we do all of this? How can we manage a magazine, write all of the content and deal with advertising issues?"

It can be done! Admittedly, it's a lot of work, but it's worth it. This never really felt like "work," anyway.

So at the moment, we're looking into having it printed and copied at somewhere like Staples or Kinko's. We can print 30-50 preliminary copies and see how they sell (at a pretty low price, probably). We'd only need a handful of advertisers to pay for the copies.

We never wanted to be one of those magazines with a million ads. All those ads do is pay the salaries of the people who go out and find more ads. Kind of pointless to me...

So that's the direction we're thinking of going in right now, and I guess we'll see how it goes. *Smile*

I love when the new issue comes out. I get this huge rush of excitement (and a tiny bit of fear) wondering what people will think. Will the featured band be happy with our article on them? Will everyone read the new issue? Will they like it?

We get feedback often from bands and others, and that always makes me happy. Our featured band left this comment on our myspace:

I just wanted to say thanks so much for the support of Beyond Fallen, and the whole music scene here. The region really needs it, and you are doing a great job to fill the void.

Thae band thanks you for the kind words.

Best of luck! Hope to see you soon!

Beyond Fallen

And a street team for another local band (one that wasn't even in our latest issue, except for a photo of us with them on the "Letter from the Editors" page) said this:

Hey Word Of Mouth PA!
you guys rock and have our full support!

It's the end of the month, and we know what that means, right? Overload of work for the procrastinator! Actually I had almost everything done in about 4 hours this morning. I always start the last day of the month thinking, "I can't do all this work! This is too much for one person!" A few hours later, it's all done, though.

New favorite band alert!

Seer
https://www.seerband.com
https://www.myspace.com/seer

They're like a grittier Muse. I'm reviewing their 4 song demo for our Ezine this month.

I'm very proud of our feature article this month, on metal band, Beyond Fallen. They're the latest NEPA band to be signed (Melissa Records, a label from the Netherlands known for picking up US metal bands and sharing them with Europe and the rest of the world). The article has a bit of an "anti-NEPA" slant to it, and I'm happy about that. I just hope people don't get too pissed about it. Then again, maybe they should. *Bigsmile*

I'm not very happy with the music scene in Pennsylvania. It definitely needs to change. We have some awesome musical talent here, but no one seems to appreciate it. (Of course, there are handfuls of those who do appreciate the music, but overall the fans and venues need a wakeup call.)

So, go listen to Seer while I write their cd review. And take a look at https://www.wordofmouthpa.com tomorrow to see the new issue! *Smile*

I created it almost three years ago. I finally updated the results, "Poetry Survey Results, (I lost the original data a long time ago, but I was able to recreate the results anyway), and I may be using it again soon for something.

So if you haven't filled it out, please do so. *Smile*

Do you like to review? Why not get gps for your work?

This forum allows you to be sure the person you're reviewing actually wants reviews and you get rewarded for your work! *Bigsmile*
