My blog--I pull a card--if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it is for you? |
I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? ![]() How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? ![]() |
Imbolc At Imbolc, a thimble full of sun, enough to warm Earth's belly crocuses and snowdrops appear. Tarot of the Crone--XIX Sun--Seek now for what brings you joy. Own that happiness. |
| Ultima Thule I'd like to touch this cold, farthest, lonely primitive planetary object. unchanged for four billion years and wrest a pebble or two to place in my pocket. Time is long. I'd like to walk among the wild trees and place my fingers on ancient moss-covered basalt glyphs smoothed by rain and wind tracing the movements of sun, moon, and stars. Earth is old. I want to trace the graceful, wooden contours of the Key Marco Cat, ensconced now behind glass and hear the echoes of the long gone Calusa. Love is eternal. Tarot of the Crone--Two of Swords--Reflection--What have I ben thinking. What could I have been thinking? |
| January My mother spent days of nothing, rocking and smoking lost in her tangled thoughts. She died at 54. At 67 I like to sit in my plastic rocker and gaze at our lake watching the cattails turn to pollen and dust. When you participate in the sorrow and the mystery everything changes. Tarot of the Crone--Witch of Wands--Sorceress---Make such magic as you've never dared to dream before. |
| Epiphany This Epiphany Sunday morning the world has gone to gray, and hush, and silvered charm. Fog drips from the palms like tinsel. Improbable stargazer that I am, I chalk 20 + M + B + G + 19 on the cold cement stoop. I call the Three Kings and the elementals to gift me strength and mystery for this fierce New Year. Author's Note: There is a tradition of chalking the current year and the initials of the Three Kings on your door, to invite them to your life on Epiphany, the day that tradition states they brought gifts to Jesus. Tarot of the Crone--XI--Strength--Feel hoe every cell of your body is an entire endless universe. |
| Celery Fields Mastodons once walked here in the middle of Sarasota. Later, they drained the fields and grew celery. Now, a man-made mound surrounds waste water ponds. From the boardwalk a shy purple gallinule hides in marsh grass, a wood stork preens on one leg, I imagine I can see the Quadrantids. Tarot of the Crone--Seven of Swords--Imagination--Even when you create the journey, the place you arrive is real. |
