Recount a trip you took to a l monument/memorial/historical site of significance, and relive your emotions. How did you feel, and why? If you have never been to a national monument/memorial/historical site of significance, which would you most like to visit and why?

In moments of silence,
we remember the sacrifices
made for the blessing of freedom.

I think I remember visiting the Pioneer Woman Museum in Oklahoma when I was very young. The only thing I remember is the statue of a Pioneer Woman standing in front of the museum. I would like to visit the War Memorials in Washington DC because I think every American should visit those memorials at least once in their lives to remember the those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

In moments of silence
we breath prayers for the dead
who paid the price of freedom.

If you could be involved in making a movie, would you rather act or direct?

If I were involved in making a movie, I would want to act rather then direct for two reasons. First, I'm sure I'm a much better actor then director. Second, I don't want the responsibility of directing.

Describe five things you want to see or do before it's too late.

Before my weary body rest
Under plants in a garden of stone
Content to decompose
Knowing its atoms return to the
Earth, I want to do five things.
To have five adventures before I die.

Long ride in a hot air balloon,
I want to visit Mount Carmel in Israel,
Sleep in a Bed and Breakfast,
To find and visit my father's grave,
See the Baha'i temple in India.

Do you think people are inherently good or bad and why?

A dual nature
A creature of matter and spirit
The individual human being
Is neither
Inherently good nor evil

Having both a body and soul
Places humanity
At the pinnacle of material evolution
And the nadir
Of spiritual development

The possession
Of a material/physical ego
And a spiritual soul
Gives the individual choice
Free will
To chose between
Good and evil
Light and darkness
Heaven and hell

Convince me why you appreciate either preparing or eating a home-cooked meal. Describe the preparation or the consumption of a homemade food you enjoy.

Each savory bite titillates my taste buds;
Nostalgic aromas awaken old memories;
Tantalizing flavors tempt overindulgence;
Happiness is consuming a home-cooked meal!
Utensils and plates on the table
Suggest a huge family feast
Included are home-made biscuits and gravy
And all the Southern fried chicken I can eat;
Succulent creamed peas and green salad
Then a home-baked cherry pie for desert.
I say grace before stuffing my face.
Comfort is consuming a home-cooked meal!

Name something you no longer worry about.

I no longer worry about getting fat. I figure as along as I consume foods in moderation and attempt to chew each bite 100 times (sometimes difficult) I can spend my remaining years enjoying the foods I like no matter what the food police say. Life is too short to worry about whether a specific food is good for me. Moderation is the key to a happy life, but I have to remember that I even have to practice moderation in moderation.

Weary of worry
Of watching my diet
I choose moderation
and take my medication.

The only type of food I have to be a bitch about avoiding is anything I have an allergic response to when I consume it. I know I am allergic to MSG, my body completely reject this food additive within the first hour and sometimes five minutes after I have eaten the food it is in. I may or may not be allergic to some other types of food because sometimes I get heart burn when I eat or drink something that has a lot of acid. I issues with hyper-acidity, but as long as I take my medication I can consume foods high in acid in small amounts.

Today is a free day, so blog on whatever your heart desires, and have a wonderful day!

Sunday morning
and the birds are singing,
they are perched
in the last dying pine tree
in my front yard;
the birds are joyfully
greeting the sun.

Sunday morning
and my coffee is brewing;
the neighbors across the street
haven't removed
the Christmas wreath hanging on their front door.

Sunday morning
and it's a free day
for some,
but not for me;
because I'm never free
of the memories...
in the morning silence
I hold my breath
listening for my name,
waiting for Mom to call out,
waiting for her to request
a cup
of hot black coffee.

Describe an individual whom you know and admire. What traits do you like about this person?

Admirable people:
How do I chose just one individual,
when each day
a thousand unsung heroes confront
the terror
of prejudice,
oppression,
and death,
with the courage
that comes
from facing their fears
and standing firm
on a foundation of nonviolence
in a violent world.

It is the steadfastness,
the faith,
and the sacrifices
of these unsung heroes
that will carry humanity through
the hate
of this present Armageddon
to emerge
as the builders
of a planetary civilization
and the parents
of a unified humanity.

It is these unsung,
these anonymous heroes
that I admire.

Write a poem utilizing the phrase, "I remember when..."
(If I can write a poem, so can you, but for those less daring, feel free to write a piece of prose instead.)

I remember when we went to Disneyland,
just Mom and I together on a holiday for two;
we departed Las Vegas just before sunset
and arrived in Anaheim about dawn.

I remember when we went to Disneyland;
we took Mom's Cadillac
and drove all night though the desert
to avoid the heat of the day,
we stopped for gas in Barstow,
ate breakfast at a greasy spoon truck stop,
and overheard the hooker in the next booth talk.

I remember when we went to Disneyland,
I discovered Mom's favorite ride to the tune
of "It's a small world after all".

Are you more likely to tell it like it is, or to hold your tongue?

Speak up
be a bitch,
be a squeaky wheel.

Speak up
be heard
and be seen.

Speak up
tell them how
the cow eat the cabbage.

Speak up
under the proper conditions
stand up for yourself.

Speak up
because silence
is not always golden.

Hold your tongue
because sometimes
silence is golden
or, at least, silver.

Hold your tongue
unless you can speak
hope rather then despair.

Hold your tongue
rather then speak
insults, curses, or gossip.

Hold your tongue
rather then make fun
of the less fortunate.

Hold your tongue
because it is less painful
then biting it.

Am I
more likely
to tell it like it is,

The circumstances
dictate my response.

Are social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc ...) an evolving form of communication and allow us to be more connected to those around us, or do they decrease communication skills, and distance us from "real" connections?

This is a different world then the one my grandparents, my parents, and even myself was born into. Technology has made the world smaller and given us easier access to other parts of the planet. Once it took weeks or months to travel from one nation to another, now we can do it in hours or in some cases a few days. In this ever shrinking world, social media sites give access to friends and potential friends in other parts of the world.

Real communications has less to do with the technology used then it does with the people using the technology. Social media is a new form of communication, therefore we have to learn to use it properly. The individual needs to take responsibility for the way he or she uses the technology. The technology of communications has very little to do with communications skills, it just makes communication faster. Communications skills is something that the individual needs to learn, if the individual has poor communications skills then the technology will make communicating more difficult. If the individual has good communications skills then the technology will make connecting with other people easier and faster.

Do you believe in the death penalty? Defend your answer.

There are some crimes that are so heinous that they require a death penalty. The problem with this penalty is the way it has been used in the past and is still being used today. The crimes that require this penalty should be strictly limited and the appeals process given an overhaul. Humanity, its cultural, its technology, and even its laws are in the process of evolution, of change.

In the past, a person could be put to death for any crime; however, that has changed. Today are numerous crimes that do not demand or even require the death penalty. In the future, there will be even fewer crimes that require this penalty because everything in the material universe is in the process of change. As the human race matures, reasons to use the death penalty will become fewer as we learn how to deal with our emotions, reactions, etc.

Is there anyone in your life that you would take a bullet for?

Is there anyone in my life I would take a bullet for? If this question were asked three months ago, I would have said my mother. Since is question is asked today, it is a bit difficult to answer. It isn't that I don't have anyone I would take a bullet for the problem today is choosing just one person. I have two grand nieces, two grand nephews, three nieces, seven nephews, two brothers, one full sister, and one half-sister. As you can see, I would have difficulty choosing which one to take the bullet for.

Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you back to childhood?

Southern fried chicken always transports me back to my childhood. I especially liked my mother's and grandmother's southern fried chicken. When I was a child they fixed the chicken in an iron skillet. Since Mom learned the recipe from Grandma, her chicken tasted like Grandma's. Grandma would dip the chicken in egg and then in a flour mixture. I know she added salt and pepper to the flour, but I can't remember the other spices.

Persuade me why you appreciate verbal arguments or disagreements.

Verbal arguments and disagreements reveal the personality traits of the combatants. Sometimes the traits revealed are good and sometimes bad that is why, when embroiled in a verbal argument or disagreement, a individual should note two thing. First, the way he or she is verbalizing his or her points and responding to the other combatant's points. Second, the way the other combatant is verbalizing points and responding to points.

Some people you cannot have a civil argument or disagreement with because it always ends in shouting, yelling, etc. The trick is for a person to learn the triggers that cause these responses in him or herself. When a person has knowledge of these triggers then a way to handle them can be formulated. This is the key to keeping a verbal disagreement civil because the only person an individual can control is him or herself. If the other combatant is unable to participate in a civil argument then one should find a catch phrase, such as "That is an interesting point, I'll have to think about", or smile and change the subject; especially, if leaving the scene of the argument is not possible.

An observant person can tell a lot about friends, foes, and self by the way they act when participating in a verbal argument or disagreement. This is true for everyone, especially politicians. Yesterday's edition of MSNBC's Caught on Camera revealed politicians, in several countries, having knock down drag out disagreements in front of cameras.

*Snow3* Disclaimer: I know I have written this in either the third person or the second person; I am not sure which at this point because I am only on my second cup of Monday morning coffee.

What is your worst quality as a human? Describe it in detail, and why you think it's bad.

Procrastination!
Without a doubt, my worst human quality is procrastination. I can think of any excuse to put off anything until the last possible minutes. I can think of make work so that I have an excuse to procrastination. I can even write a poem that makes procrastination look like a virtue.

Procrastination is best
Of this much I am sure
All though you may protest
Procrastination is best
Taking action may cause unrest
So inaction is the cure
Procrastination is best
Of this much I am sure

In 2013, I am attempting to overcome this habit and resign as President of the Procrastinators Society of America; I am not sure whether I am doing a good job or not, but it is still early in the year. If this question was ask last year I probably would have had a different answer. If this question is ask next year the answer will probably be different. However, right now my worst quality is procrastination.

My eyes

A slight breeze

move across the sky
progressing

The January 13, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Blog. Tell us about your week. Include your favorite blog entry from your fellow challengers from the preceding week, and, most importantly, why.

I am beginning this entry with laughter. I read several funny entries on Friday, many of the made me laugh aloud. The one that caused me to laugh loudest and longest is "Invalid Entry by shoumojit.

As for the rest of my week, I went to the doctor on January 8 because I need my medication refilled and had a bladder infection. I am feeling 90% better and I imagine I will feel 100% better when I finish the antibiotics on Wednesday. The doctor also gave me a referral to have a X-ray of my left knee, which has a tendency to go out of joint. When it does the pain is excruciating and I cannot move until the knee goes back into joint. The main problem is that it goes out of joint when I am in the car, if I am driving I have to find a place to pull over and open the door so that I can get it back into joint.

We finally have winter weather in Las Vegas, which comes along with wind and a windchill factor. I check the weather and temperature online because my television is facing the wrong direction. The television is facing the couch and not the computer. If it were facing the computer I could watch the local news and weather much easier. As it is, I have to turn off the computer and sit on the couch to watch television.

The January 12, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS is A day in the life of a blogger.

I know I turned the alarm clock off, Adrian thought reach for the clock, but then she realized she was hearing music. I guess I didn't turn off the clock radio or the cell phone. Feeling around on the nightstand, she finally found her cell phone and pushed a button to turn off the music. She laid back down and closed her eyes, but five minutes later the alarm on the cell phone went off again. This time, when she picked up the phone she opened her eyes and pressed the off button instead of the snooze.

Again she laid her head on her pillow and closed her eyes, but fifteen minutes later she awake with a start. A male voice reverberated through the house, he was saying something about twenty-nine degree temperatures and snow. Sighing, she got out of bed and made her way to the dining room. Sitting on a table next to the kitchen door the clock radio was blasting away. As she turned it off, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the house. Sighing, she went into the kitchen and poured herself a cup of dark Sumatran coffee.

Cup in hand, she walked to the kitchen window and stared into the backyard. What, she took a sip of coffee, is that white stuff on the ground?

"Woof," Frankfurter, her dachshund, sat at the backdoor waiting to go out. Placing her cup next to the coffee maker, she went to the door and opened it. A think layer of snow covered the back stoop. The dog looked up at her, whined, and then stood there staring into the backyard.

"That's snow, You Silly Dog," she began to shiver, "you've seen it before. Either go out or..." at that moment the neighbor's Siamese cat, Jay, jumped over the dog and ran into the dining room. Three minutes later, Frankfurter followed the cat leaving Adrian staring after them. "Now they're ganging up on me," she closed the door. "At least I have a blog entry today."

Bagpipe music reverberated from the bedroom, Crap! I left the phone on the nightstand. She headed for her bedroom, but paused in the dining room to stare at Jay and Frankfurter. They were curled up together on the dining room chair which was sitting directly under a heating vent. Continuing into the bedroom, she picked up the phone and checked the number. Since she did not recognize it, she pressed exit and took the phone with her to the kitchen where she poured herself more coffee. Then with the cup in her right hand and the cell phone in her left, she went into her office and turn on her computer. Instead of checking her inbox, as was normal, she accessed her blog and began to type the entry. An hour later, she posted the entry.

Her phone beeped, she accessed the voice mail and listened to the message. A man's voice said, "Sweet Heart, I know you're probably still asleep, but I found that quote we were talking about the other night. Here is is Life is like a taxi. The meter just keeps a-ticking whether you are getting somewhere or just standing still. It's written by Lou Erickson. So to prevent you from standing still, I'm sending a taxi to your house in an hour and we're going to go out for breakfast. See you at the Pancake House on Rainbow in a couple of hours, Love."

The doorbell ring, so Adrian saved the message and then answered the door. Joe, her neighbor, stood on the porch with a worried look on his face. "Adrien, have you seen Jay. He didn't come home this morning and I've looked everywhere."

"Not everywhere," she motioned him to come in and pointed to the dining room. "If I were you, Joe, I wouldn't disturb them. Instead, go into the kitchen and pour yourself a cup of coffee while I get dressed. I'll take you out for breakfast."

"But, Adrien,..."

"Joe, Sue has been gone two days and I know you haven't eaten a decent meal in that time. If I don't make sure you have one good meal while she gone, she'll never speak to me again."

An hour later the drove into the parking lot of the Pancake House on Rainbow Avenue. Joe got out of the passenger side, went around the car, and opened the door for her. Inside the restaurant, Adrien looked around. In a corner booth, a man, wearing a baseball cap, stared intently at the door.

"A table or a booth," the hostess ask .

"Can you seat us next to the corner booth," said Adrien.

"Follow me, please," she guided them to the booth and laid menus down. "Would you like something to drink?"

"We'll have coffee," said Joe.

A few minutes later, a woman, wearing a pink robe and fuzzy slippers, came in and walked to the corner booth. "Sully," she said, "the next time you send a cab for me, please give me an hour's warning."

The January 12, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum If you could live forever, would you? Why or why not?

I am presuming the prompt is referring to the physical body rather then the soul. A person's soul was met to live forever, but the physical body was intended live a short period of time on this earth. Once the physical body has reached it allotted years and then it dies and begins to decompose, while the soul ascends into the next world. When the soul ascends, it takes with it the spiritual attributes it has acquired during its association with the physical body. These attributes cloth the soul in paradise.

Eternal life;
the soul weary of its earthly journey
ascends into its spiritual home
clothed in the attributes
of love,
of faith,
of creativity,
etc.

Would I chose to live forever in this physical body? No. I want to live as long as it is God's will that I remain on Earth, but I would not want to deprive my soul of the joy of paradise by keeping my physical body alive forever. Death is not something to be feared because it opens the door to eternal life for the human soul.

Until the moment of physical death
the door is closed
to eternal life
and the soul cannot open it.

In the Hidden Words, Baha'u'llah says "O Son of the Supreme! I have made death a messenger of joy to thee. Wherefore dost thou grieve? I have made the light to shed on thee its splendor. Why dost thou veil thyself therefrom?" (The Hidden Words of Baha'u'llah, Part 1 ~ From the Arabic, #32)

When was the last time you remember laughing so hard your sides hurt, your smiling muscles were sore, and your eyes were tearing up? What were you laughing at?

Laughter is the best medicine. ~ Author Unknown

Hard laughter
reverberated through my body
and penetrated my soul.

When was the last time I remember laughing so hard my sides hurt, my smiling muscles were sore, and my eyes were tearing up? I can't remember the exact date of this occurrence; all though, I do know it's been several years.

Hard laughter
washes away the dust
of daily living
and heals my depressed
spirit.

Each time you laugh you add one minute to your life span. ~ Author Unknown

Hard laughter
brings weariness to my body
and happiness to my soul.

What was I laughing at? I was laughing at a cat. Vashtie had this tendency to flop down on the floor whenever she saw either my mother or me enter a room. This was her way of telling us she wanted one of us to pick her up. One day, I plugged the vacuum cleaner into a living room wall socket. The phone ring, so instead of turning on the vacuum, I went to answer the phone. When I returned Vashtie was sitting next to the vacuum, she saw me return from the kitchen and flopped down. When she flopped down, she turned of the vacuum (I could turn that vacuum on by stepping on the switch in the front). The sound of the vacuum frightened Vashtie, she jumped straight up into the air and sped into the kitchen. I have never laughed so hard in my life, even today I still laugh at the memory of the way she frightened herself.

How many years
does hard laughter
increase my life span?

January 10, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Gay marriage? Yes? No? Do you care? Why?

The answer to the question about gay marriage is no, but since it will probably become a law of this country my opinion in this matter does not count. When the question comes up again on the ballet in Nevada, which it inevitably will, I will (as I always do) vote my conscience. I do not care if my opinion counts on this subject because the important thing is how I treat other people whether or not I agree with who they can or cannot marry.

This is the point I step on my soapbox.

One of the problems with the world and America is that there are to damn many fanatics who do not care about others. By not caring about others, I mean that they want to push their opinion without listening to the other person's point of view. In America, it is not the opinion of the individual that wins in the voting booth, but the opinion of the majority. Once the opinion of the majority is made clear you accept it as the law of the land and you treat every human being the way you would like to be treated.

Which (to me means) that one does not tell another person that he or she is going to hell because of their sexual orientation, their religion, their color, their gender, their nationality, etc. No one, I do not care how righteous, the person believes him or herself to be knows until the moment of death what stage of the afterlife they will be in. It is true, that a person can do something in this life to help the soul ascend into paradise; one of those things is to ask questions. The Creator does not want blind followers because they too easily become fanatics and, at the very least, alienate the rest of humanity.

That said, I can now carefully step down off my soap box.

Extremes of weather,
hot or cold,
pushes us
to the breaking point,
to the point of no return,
to extinction
or to change.

Extremes in weather test
our will to survive
physically,
spiritually,
and mentally;
it is during the extremes
that our attitudes
and our technologies
evolve.

Moderation
in weather
or anything else
gives us a rest,
but it is the extremes
that push
our spiritual,
physical,
and mental evolution.

The January 9, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS is
Do you belong in this day and age? Do you feel comfortable being a citizen of the 21st-century? If you do, explain why — and if you don’t, when in human history would you rather be?

I belong in this day and age because I was born in 1946 and I am still alive in the 21st-century. If I did not belong in this century, I would have died in a refrigerator in Oklahoma when I was a young child (somewhere between three and five years old). I have a reason for living in the 21st-century, but that does not mean I feel comfortable in this century. Sometime I feel comfortable in this century and sometime I feel uncomfortable being a 21st-century citizen.

I do not feel like a citizen of the 21st-century. I do not think of myself as a citizen of the 21st-century. I view myself as a citizen of the world, as a citizen of the universe. This concept of citizenship takes in all nations, centuries, and planets. I am living in this century because it is my destiny to live in this century. I have something to do, I have something to accomplish. I read a quote once that said something about being happy in the day (age) in which you live. Despite my tendency toward depression, most of the time I am either happy or content in this day and age. If I could have chosen the age in which I lived, I would probably choose sometime in the future. Perhaps a 150 or 200 years in the future when I could live in a colony of Mars or one in interstellar space.
