My life in Tel Aviv. Welcome to Israel!
Shalom! I was born outside of Haifa, moved to Tel Aviv when I was twelve, and served in the Israeli Defense Force for two years. Now, I am a student at TAU.

I hope I can show the world the humanity of my nation. We're not so different, after all.

Whoever destroys a single life is as guilty
as though he had destroyed the entire world;
and whoever rescues a single life
earns as much merit as though he had
rescued the entire world

I do not know what that was I drank but ooooh it is not going to be good I think tomorrow morning. But is okay that I went out tonight because I have no classes tomorrow because it's Shabbat of course, so all I have is at sundown with my family and my brother will be coming home!!!!!

Sooooo I can sleep in tomorrow and not have to worry about feeling sick or needing lemons until awhile.

The terrorists are firing rockets at us again but guess what? They keep missing! And they will always keep missing because they don't have any weapons that can aim worth anything. But that doesn't even matter because that doesn't matter, because we are young and we're going to be happy for a long time, yes?

Cheerful!!! Energetic!!!!!! When I was a kid and I had to take stuff so I could sit still they tried to pretend it was bad to be energetic but it isn't bad! L'Chaim!

Today, I got a Café Afuch (http://www.israel-food-guide.com/hot-coffee.html) and decided to do some shopping!

I did well, I am pleased to say! I have two new pairs of pants, a new sweater, and a really cute shirt that I very much like *Smile*. I usually am not so interested in fashion, but I like to look like I try *Laugh*. If I could, I would wear sandals and skirts and no sleeve tops all the time, but Israel decides to get cold in the winter so I cannot do this. And blue jeans are cute in America, but here they are very expensive and they are not very comfortable. Also they are not good for concealing your weapons *Wink*.

I love new clothes *Heart*! I think is true for most women, no matter the country.

Airport security. All passengers are scrutinized, objected to high surveillance, and made to pass through government and military regulated checkpoints before boarding aircraft of any kind. Recently in certain parts of the world, this has failed.

So my question is, should security guards use ethnicity to determine which passengers to interrogate or is this a violation of ethical code? And, if it is a violation of moral boundaries, does it even matter when the threat of terrorism is so high?

Assalaamu Alaykum, sahabeti. Kayfa haluk? Ana Noa. Ana mim Tel Aviv.

This is what I have learned in day one of my new Arabic course. I have said, "May G-d bless you, my friends! How are you? I am Noa. I am from Tel Aviv." You are impressed, yes?

Hebrew and Arabic are very, very similar. Sister-languages. My Egyption professor started the first lesson by saying shalom, and then, salaam. Peace, she says. This is what is important. Well, yes. But is not so simple as learning a language *Wink*. But is a good step, I think.

Now, at least, I can make sense of graffiti.

In political news, every Israeli citizen is being given a gas mask and a chemical warfare protective kit. Gas will not be used to drive us out of the country, the government says. Well, no, but, like Krav Maga, the Uzi, and undeniable charm, these kits will do very little against the missiles being shot at us (again) from the depths of Gaza, against the rockets pointed at the heart of Tel Aviv, or the suicide bomber waiting for his moment to shine. All wars reach a point where neither side can rely solely on defense.

Well, my new classes are not horrible. They are not fascinating, but they are not horrible. For my second year at University, it could be worse.

School is just so boring compared to the Army. No way around this.

I turn 23 in three weeks! This is exciting. I have some fun plans that will end with me making more promises never to drink again, I imagine, but I have friends who have been abroad that have come back home, so I will some old friends. And is nice to see family, whatever the reason.

I have a cough *Frown*. Thank you, cold weather.

The Saudi FM called Israel a "spoiled child" *Laugh* *Laugh* *Laugh*. I find this very, very funny.

And speaking of humor...

Two Arabs boarded a shuttle from Washington to New York. One sat in the window seat, the other in the middle seat.

Just before take-off a little Israeli guy got on and took the aisle seat next to the Arabs.

He kicked off his shoes, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said, "I think I'll go up and get a coke."

"No problem," said the Israeli, "I'll get it for you." While he was gone, the Arab picked up the Israeli's shoe and spit in it.

When the Israeli returned with the coke, the other Arab said, "That looks good. I think I'll have one too."

Again, the Israeli obligingly went to fetch it, and while he was gone the Arab picked up the other shoe and spit in it.

The Israeli returned with the coke, and they all sat back and enjoyed the short flight to New York.

As the plane was landing the Israeli slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened.

"How long must this go on?" he asked. "This enmity between our people...this hatred...this animosity...this spitting in shoes and peeing in cokes?"

My goal this year is make twelve billion U.S. dollars so that I can eliminate loan debt and live downtown Tel Aviv and travel anywhere I want, anytime I want. My goal also is to find a cure for cancer (to save lives, not to make even more money), find peace between Arabs and Israelis, discover a new kind of rainforest species, and swim across the Red Sea.

I thought about just not drinking, but that would be impossible *Wink*.

The German exchange students are here at the Tel Aviv high schools. Some of these girls are, like, sixteen and they are twice my height, a million times prettier, and have "cool accents." My cousin has one staying with her, and my mother, after I told her this girl was an avid smoker, dismissed the charge as being "cultural", but when I smoked, it was "despicable." Oi vey.

Anyway, I don't think the Russian students are a big fan of the German students (something about history?), and since 20% of our Jewish population comes from the former Soviet Block, is a notable trend *Bigsmile*. Is amusing, this rivalry, and best solved on the football field!

I would suggest we solve our problems with the Palestinians on the football field, but we would probably lose. So is not good idea.

You have to laugh: Israel is the only Jewish state in the entire world, and still Jews are only 75% of the population *Laugh*. We need to make more children. Maybe by 2010 we'll be .5 of 1% of the world's population, and not just .25! Haha *Wink*.

Anyway, I have not been making more children, personally. I have been breaking promises, like the one I may or may not have made to myself about no drinking for a month? This is not to happen. Is Sylvester! Political New Year! I need to fail at my oath before the New Year, so that I end 2009 badly and do not begin 2010 badly. Is all about logic.

Also! The Germans have to pay us one billion Euros for war reparations *Bigsmile*. Revenge is a pocketbook, not an automatic weapon.

Shalom, shalom *Smile*.

Getting a cavity drilled with out being numbed was not one of my brightest ideas. And the charming dental assistant, upon seeing my expression of pure torture cheerfully remarked, "You know, in Auschwitz, nobody was numbed for any dental procedure." Thank you, that really makes me appreciate your suggestion that I, as a free and legal citizen, do the same.

Anyway, it was party my fault because my rationale was that, if I was not numbed, I could actually function normally upon leaving and not feel like my cheek is the size of a pomegranate for the rest of the day. But still. Was painful.

Going on a date tonight that I am not looking forward to. I have a feeling he's a schmuck. I have no reason to think this, but I think that is what he is. Oi vey. Pita pizza, however, ought to make up for things if things are not quite what I want *Wink*.

Today I went to a krav maga class with a friend. We learned krav maga of course in the IDF (and in school, from the time I was seven), but is important to continue learning and practicing. Of course, hand-to-hand comabt doesn't do much against bombs, but is well-worth knowing. Is important to continue practicing shooting and combat skills, because even if you are no longer in the army, the war does not discriminate. I would like to see any of our old attackers (Christian Crusadors, Babylonians, Nazis, Soviets, and a million others etc.) try and fight us now. Ha ha *Wink*.

Do the McDonalds sell McFalafels in America?
