Orpheus's skill
with both note and word
were harkened far and wide.
Yet Orpheus pined for Eurydice
who died of viper's bite.
He descended into the underworld
to retrieve his lovely bride.
But as Gods' wont,
the cards were stacked
and maenads end his plight.
