When Chelsea, a young CNA from Denver, accepts a high-paying travel assignment in the quiet town of Ellsworth, Texas, she expects long overnight shifts and small-town charm, not a haunting. Working night shifts at a local rehab center, Chelsea begins to notice strange occurrences like dripping water and call lights turning on and off by themselves, coming from an empty room on her hall. As the disturbances escalate, she turns to the local historical society and online genealogy forums for answers. Her investigation uncovers a chilling past: the rehab center was built atop the former farmland of Andrew Ellsworth, the town's quiet and generous namesake who vanished without a trace in 1910. His brother, Thomas Ellsworth, who lived in a dilapidated shack on his brother's property, quickly sold his brother's land and disappeared days after Andrew was declared legally dead. His motives were as murky as Andrew's fate. Determined to uncover the truth, Chelsea digs deeper and discovers a forgotten family branch. Thomas had a twin brother, Timothy, who settled in Arkansas with a young bride, while the other two brothers lived in Texas. Through a genealogy website, Chelsea connects with Timothy's elderly granddaughter, and together they unravel a century-old mystery, one that links the Ellsworth brothers not only to the haunting but also to Chelsea's hometown of Denver, Colorado. ----------------------------------- This is a work of fiction. All of the websites, towns (except Denver, Colorado), names of businesses, and names of my characters are fiction. There was a community in North Texas called Ellsworth, but it has since vanished and become a ghost town. Nothing in my story took place in real life. If it did, it is purely by coincidence. |
