Don’t let the name scare you. This is a simple syllabic form and lots of fun to play with. The Epulaeryu is a poetic form about delicious food. Joseph Spence, Sr., developed the form as a way of blending his love of poetry with a passion for preparing, sampling, tasting, and enjoying delicious cuisines with an international flavor. The name is derived from the Latin word "epulum," meaning "feast," and the Asian suffix "ryu," meaning "style." The form consists of seven lines with syllable counts of 7,5,7,5,5,3, and 1, respectively. Each line contains a separate thought or image of the subject, ending with a single-syllable exclamation of the poet's feelings about the subject.
