Discuss all things relating to writing and genre. |
Hey Panda (and hopefully the rest of the panda's body as well else I fear you may be more twisted even than I am!). There are many books/stories that breech both science fiction and fantasy. Actually, one could argue that science fiction is a sub genre of fantasy. Seven-legged Cyclopses from the planet Dregnot are pretty fantastical, or at least I've never run across one in real life. Unless your story takes place on another planet and that setting is a major plot element, or unless you have aliens sucking the souls out of ever-stupid humans (ie., unless your story is blatantly sci-fi), you would probably be safe labelling it fantasy. Horror is a sub genre of fantasy too. Fantasy is anything that is not realistic, or that is imagined but still realistic (I'm looking at you, historical fiction). It's a huge genre with a zillion and a half sub genres. A fine example of a book that crosses all three genres is The Tommyknockers by Stephen King. It, by Master King does it too. You're in good company with blurred genre lines. Come check out my writing website here: http://katmhawthorne.com, or my editing website here: http://www.movetothewrite.com |
