What do you need to learn/research to improve your reviewing technique? A.Technical aspects of writing, such as literary devices, plot devices, genre descriptions? Over the years, I have accumulated a stockpile of sources, both online and on my bookshelves, that give me access to most of the information required to provide a constructive review. Here are a few of the online examples which you may find helpful: https://literarydevices.net/ http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/composition/abstract.htm https://writershelpingwriters.net/ Yes, scouring through all that information may take time and energy, but I believe the end result is well worth the effort. B. How to analyze dialogue or assess grammar? Dialogue should feel natural and be distinctive for each character, as described and demonstrated in the following link: http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/there-are-no-rules/keep-it-simple-keys... Creative License affords us the liberty to bend, or even break, the strict commandments of grammar and punctuation, so I evaluate such matters based on how they contribute to the overall effect the writer is trying to achieve. C. How will you go about developing your reviewing craft? Practice, practice, and more practice. The more we do, the more we come to understand the principles involved and pass that understanding along to others. Feedback also helps. I am considering taking your one-on-one workshop, perhaps next month. I also like 🌝 HuntersMoon Let the creativity flow from your soul! Dave "The Poet's Place " |
