Sorry, Dave, I was concerned that somebody might think that I was making a criticism of Dr. Seuss, due to the juxtaposition of that line. The truth is that I was trying to poke fun at my own attempts at teaching in silly ways. I’m sure Dr. Seuss himself had the intent of being “tongue-in-cheek” with his own style, but the result has been an amazing amount of learning through the years, regarding his work.
I suppose that there is a similarity between poetry and advertising in the media. “Make an impression in the buyer’s mind. Make your work of superior quality or make your work of insanely poor quality. Anything extreme or intensely unique will make your product to stick in the buyer’s brain. Mission Accomplished.”
Again, no offense was intended because Dr. Seuss has my highest respect. The truth remains, though, that every time I hear anapestic verse, I think of Dr. Seuss, and it makes me chuckle. Dr. Seuss is a funny guy. That’s why I love him so much!
