Do you look at the plot, the characters, and the way that the author puts words together? Yes, yes, and yes. The characters' motivations are what drive the plot, which contains the conflict to keep readers engaged. The way the author puts words together determines how well the other elements are communicated to the audience. Do you like stories that have a lot of action or a lot of character development? Without an understanding of the characters and what drives them, the action has no purpose. Do you like authors to use a lot of complicated words, or very simple words? The author should use simple, clear language, but sometimes the narrator or one of the characters is so full of him/herself that they can't be controlled, as in "The High Pompitous" Let the creativity flow from your soul!
