Re: The Structure of Free Verse

From Labor to Leisure

I used to be a teacher --
responsible work,
work with meaning
and consequences,
not to be taken lightly.
Long hours, road blocks,
people of all ages
to assure and to serve,
whose futures rested
on my weary shoulders.
And, finally, I had done
that quite long enough.

Now my job is to play
with my good dogs,
to drink coffee with
my beloved while
considering the state
of the world , the universe.
Finally, I can read and write
to my heart’s content.
Not as world-changing,
but infinitely more fun!
