The idea of "winner" is something of a furphy. Yes, 50k words is what the organisers consider a "win", but... Every word you wrote in NaNoWriMo is a word you hadn't written before - win. You've written words, where so many say they're "gunna" write a book and never do - win. You have the start (at least) of a longer story - win. You work out how best you write, what works better for you, thereby improving your writing practice - win. So, while the actual event calls people a "winner" because they need that in order to get people interested, so long as you participate, in a very real sense, you "win". Don't come down hard on yourself. Don't feel you've failed because you won't reach that 50k word goal. Don't compare yourself to other writers. You've won. At least, that's the way I see it. |
