Living in the UK, we have a Universal Care System, but also have Private care for those who can afford it. Most people in England pay for their prescriptions unless they are retired, or on certain benefits. I don't have to pay for mine. They are free for everyone in Wales and Scotland, not sure about Northern Ireland. There are limitations on some medicines, but it is rare. Since Covid the system here has changed and none of us seem to know what's going on. My sister had one course of EMDR, and it made a big difference, however, she had treatment for a year, yet only had emerged itself for two months, once a week. She also has other mental health issues and she wouldn't have the machine in the room for the first 6 months because other people had touched it. She has Borderline Personality Disorder, and this makes dealing with her as a family member or a professional, very tricky. There is no doubt she has ptsd but, for example, there are certain sounds that she said triggered her flashbacks. I accepted that, no problem. And while in my garden these sounds were quite common. While I was in the garden with her she would react to these sounds, every time. Then one day I was in the kitchen and she was in the garden and the sounds happened and she didn't react. I never said anything, but I did the same thing a few more times and the same thing. I have also seen her, and she's told me outright how she's told people things to get what she wants. It may well be part of the BPD but a therapist also suggested she may have DID, or multiple Personality disorder. She jumped on that and so used that as well. So, last year I dared to ask if she was planning to go back to having emdr, and she accused me of trying to make her instantly well, and not accepting her for who she is... It wasn't what I was doing at all, it was just she'd said how much better she'd felt, and she really was. I saw the benefits for her. I will tell her about the new emdr so thank you for that information. I hope you do well in your studies, I got my degree in English Literature when I was 49, I would have gone further with my studies but I couldn't afford to. I think you're right to make it as easy for you as possible going forward, and also, when it comes to your health, you have to do what is best for you. When I saw my MRI and I could see the hole in my brain, it was a shock. I only saw it a few years ago, yet it had been there since I was 19. Now I just say to people, sorry I can't remember your name, it fell into black hole in my brain. Lol... Thank you for also explaining where you are with your health, I think you're doing so well. I have a friend who probably thinks like you about where she lives. She lives in Wales, which is beautiful but the weather is awful there in the Winter. I think she'd move to where I am, even though I don't live that far away. Our weather here is definitely better than hers for a lot of the year... Take care and thank you again for the info, thank you for your encouragement as well. Angel |
