It doesn't surprise me that the vast majority of the answers to this question are claims to be introverted. If we're writers, then a certain amount of introversion is required. We write because it's a better way to communicate than conversing, as far as we're concerned. I would rather type my side of a conversation than speak it directly to the person, because it allows me to be much more precise and accurate in what I say. I get frustrated with conversations face to face and always end up thinking, "I should have said this," or "No, I didn't mean that at all." Living on the internet, I have the time to order my thoughts, marshal my arguments, and express with precision exactly what I want to say. And I have the time too to understand fully what is being said to me, and understanding how the person thinks before giving my answer. It's so much more efficient than speech. Which doesn't mean I don't like extraverts. In fact it's true, most of my friends are extraverted. They're so entertaining! One could almost admire the freedom with which they open their mouths and let it all pour out. So amusing and colourful, so happy and, well, thoughtless. But not really for us grown-ups, is it? ![]() |
